Nobody was as wealthy as they are today. Wealth is relative to the time frame. Robinson was fighting for huge purses. He had expensive tastes like have a fleet of pink cadillaca shipped to Europe for a fight so he and his entourage could drive around in them while training. He owned restaurants and clubs in The City. Real Estate in Harlem.ALL popular and all lucrative enough for him to give up the sport and live off of that. Why does Steve Wynn continue to build or Donald Trump have a television show??

LOL I dare anybody to find me a player who is stupid enough to agree to this.I'm already tiring of the over exposure that is the NFL.Since my Red Sox are out of contention,I guess Ill have to put up with it.Go Pats! I found my self cheering the sox to beat the rays tonight. It was a dark day in my household. A diehard yanks fan cheering on the sox .I chalked it up to a business decision. I do hope to see Pedroia back in action next year he's a scrapper that i love to hate. One thing I recognized today is that Derek Jeter is done being Derek Jeter. The inevitable slide has begun. Much as I hate the guy, I've loved watching him. Stop it stop it stop it!!!!!!!!!! I know. Its sad isn't it?? A Rod too. Injuries starting to pile up.

Think maybe those guys knew a thing or two? There is printed literature to support your side. I think that era is fun to read about in any topic on any level. Boxing as far as sports went was probably the best way to earn a dime in sports. Still is for guys under 160 lbs. The only other sports I can think of would be autoracing and horseracing as more lucrative than boxing.

| Jeter got engaged and that's the problem lol. I see him having one more productive year but playing four more. He winds up with 3500 hits and a 300 lifetime average. | |

If jeter plays five more years and averages say 450 at bats in those years? He needs 3440 lifetime hits to be a 300 hitter. That's only a 250 batting average over those five season. My guess is your numbers are about right.

| baseball..i love it as much as boxing..im a lifelong yankee fan and since i was six years old used to come home from school and immediately turn on the game on the radio and waited patiently for the great dimaggio to come to bat..i too rooted for the red sox over tampa the other night only because the sox are out of it and tampas close for the division title and home field advantage..if the sox and rays were both a game apart id root for a tampa sweep.the loyal red sox fans would do the same if it was revereased....jeter is slowing down yes.i dont think hes done..ted williams once hit 259 one year..thats right...hell 300 was a bad year for ted but he rebounded with a huge year the next year..i look for jeter to do 285 next year and with several key hits....a-rod will rebound also but like jeter with numbers lower then the past. number 2 is not only what yankee baseball is about but baseball itself..he like tony gwyn errnie banks phil rizzutto the most beloved yogi berra etc etc are true heros and image wise the ultimate in representing the game.there like joe louis and marciano and guys like them are to boxing..the manny ramierzs albert bells etc etc are the floyds and hayes of baseball..baseball and its heritage to me has a special place in this sportslovers heart...like boxing it has changed...great talent is playing today but i prefer when it was the era when it was just a game..the boys of summer..willie mickey and the duke will always have found memories for me...the simplicitry of a beautifull person in yogi berra and the marvel of a teenager called bob feller...and mr baseball himself the incompareable babe ruth..like the song says thoses were the days my friend.... | |

And only one freaking pitch! How does THAT work exactly? The hitters know it is coming 85% of the time and they STILL can't do anything with it?
