RUMOR: Belfort injured, fight canceled

My question is, when was this surgery scheduled? If he already had it then when exactly did he know he needed it? Why didn't we find this out sooner?

They said yesterday he was being rushed to emergency shoulder surgery or something.

It's probably been going on for a couple weeks. They had to get the Abu Dabhi stuff finalized before they said "oh ya Belfort one of the biggest fighters on this card won't be able to fight likely"

Sounds to me like he had one surgery, but needs another.

April 10th? That is less then 2 months from today, i can't see Sonnen being ready.

If we go on captain organic's assumption that a fight can't be ready from 109 then here is a look at possible opponents.

2. Dan Henderson - SF
3. Nate Marquardt - not ready and coming off a loss
4. Vitor Belfort - injured
5. Jake Shields - SF
6. Damien Maia - not ready
7. Chael Sonnen - not ready
8. Mamed Khalidov - I guess the UFC could bring him in, but who knows. Plus no one knows who the hell he is.
9. Yushin Okami - Tech he is available, but h is coming off a loss and not anywhere near contention.
10. Ronaldo Souza - SF
RV
Yoshihiro Akiyama - the best possibility
Michael Bisping - booked
Robbie Lawler - SF or is he a free agent? A possibility
Paulo Filho - Anderson's teamante
Melvin Manhoef - A possibility, but I doubt he could be ready in time and just got KTFO.

Now some other weight class possibilities

-Scratch the Hughes-Gracie fight and let Hughes move up. It will be an obvious massacre, but Hughes had talked about fighting Anderson back when he was champ.

-Scratch the Penn-Edgar fight and move BJ up. He's fought at higher weight classes before, but once again he doesn't stand a chance.

-Scratch the GSP-Hardy fight and have the super fight we all want. I doubt GSP would do it on short notice though. Plus it screws up another card.

-Have Rich come back to 185 for a 3rd shot at Anderson. Yeah I know, no one wants to see that.

-Rashad Evans cutting from 205. Who knows if he could even make it (I think he could), but that screws up another card.

-Bring up Fitch or Avles. They're both large WWs and are pretty solid fighters.

Uhhh... yeah I'm out of ideas.

Maia!!!!!!!! It's 8 weeks from now. He can take another week off if needed. Get in the gym for a week to get back in shape, and he'd still have a full 6 week training camp for the Anderson fight. He's actually probably still in fight shape now, so he may be able to get a 7 or 8 week training camp in.

never heard of "emergency shoulder surgery" and being "rushed" because of it. Just doesn't sound right.

Sorry but I hate all of those. I like canceling Wandy vs Bisping and giving Wandy a shot better. But even better then that Maia is healthy and in shape.

I think none of the brazilians want to fight each other now Wand wants to train with Anderson and never fight him. Thats just weak man i thought your goal in martial arts was self control and testing your skills and abilities through competition and growing through the experience. Now they are friends again BS!!!

The reason Wandy and Anderson have had their drama is because Anderson had been knocked out in the gym by Wanderlei in the past, but they've made up and now Wanderlei probably doesn't want knocked out by Anderson in the cage.
