| Well, Condit did say it was going to be a dogfight. Now if that means two snarling pitbulls trying to rip the others throat out, then no it wasn't. But if you mean a methodical, well thought out airplane battle, where the pilot with the better strategy, tactics and the ability to use them to achieve victory? Then yes it was. If you guys want to go watch two guys bang until one is one the ground, might I suggest "Toughman" competitions? | |

yes mma is a sport, the sport of FIGHTING. People want to see back and forth action packed fights. Not dudes running and winning by throwing more leg kicks. I wish there was more of an appreciation for the technical aspects of mmma too, but it is the reality of the situation. If you ask the average mma fan whether they would rather see a 25 minute technical bout with a lot of circling, running, and non-power leg strikes to out-point an opponent without taking any real risks or landing any significant power strikes or a 25 minute war with both fighters trading and still coming forward the whole time swinging at eachother to the final bell, what do you think they are gonna pick?
Im not saying it's right but it is reality.
Dispite what the fans think the sport isn't based on who windmills the most punches the fastest or who throws the most haymakers. Fighters who have Diaz's style do not get +2 points in every fight. That is how MMA is and if they don't like it go watch Felon Fights.

| Hendo vs Shogun was a very sloppy fight. I am the biggest Shogun fan on the planet but dispite what Joe Rogan might tell you it wasn't the greatest fight ever bro! It was a good fight no doubt, but it's not the fight I show to new fans saying this is the perfect example of two of greatest fighters showing off technique and atheticism. Most new fans would question why are these two guys gassed by the middle of round 1?

Anyway, in my opinion saying anyone who criticized Condit's fighting style in that fight are the "biggest fucking crybabies on the planet" is just a tad much. I have said all along that i scored the fight for Condit, and it was a smart gameplan. I just noted that his talk didn't match his fighting. It was not the fight it was hyped to be and i am just not a fan of the Out-point someone to squeak by on the scorecards fighting style. Which i have NEVER seen from Condit before, he is usually a savage who is always trying to finish fights which is why i have been a big fan of his. That is what i was criticizing, NOT THE DECISION killer so relax bud.

whole bunch of others criticizing the decision and what not. It was close but i gave it to Condit by a round myself.
i think more than anything people are disappointed with the way Carlos didn't really do what he said he was gonna do. I find that silly. For a lot of people it's about the fight still, not the hype. That's why I've watched maybe two primetimes ever since they started doing them. Talk is cheap, I'm not in it for talk. I bet Condit also said he was gonna win, talk backed up enough. Condit fought the better fight. How many times have we seen Diaz be aggressive with pace get people back peddling and on the fence where he terrorizes them? A lot in recent years, that has become Diaz' biggest strength among all others in winning lately. He was trying to do that to Condit and Carlos would not allow it. Condit dictated the terms of how the fight was going to take place, in the center of the cage, and DIaz was unable to do enough about it, plain and simple. If people are upset Condit didn't conform to Diaz's strengths, and back himself into the fence, they need to deal with it, that's not how it works.

| regardless i didn't mention your name killer did i? Was anything in that post directed at you? No.
I was taking aim at the implication of - anyone who criticizes Condits fighting style in this fight, which is all i have even done to begin with, is just being a sore loser / cry baby.
If it was Diaz who had fought that way, i would be writing the same exact thing about him. Notice i did not talk any shit about Condit before this like i would normally do for about every other fighter out there. Condit is someone that i have been a fan of for a long time. Why? For similar reasons as to why Nick Diaz is my favorite fighter, his relentless attacking fighting style. I love it. They are 2 of the most exciting fighters in the world. And honest to god, more than i had a rooting interest in this fight i just really wanted to see who would come out on top in this clash of amazing offensive attackers. All that i have said is simply that i was let down by the fight, it did not live up to my or anyone else's expectations, and that is because of the game plan carlos chose to use. That was a smart, strategic, and yes, safe game plan. I think it is safe to say that was not the same game plan he has used while finishing his opponent 26 out of his 28 previous career wins. That is all i was ever trying to say.
I am just not a fan of guys who play it safe and take no risk and are comfortable riding out a decision in almost every single fight. I like guys who are not afraid to go for it. So sue me.

the man wanted his belt, he doesn't give a damn how he got it or if he upset half of the mma world about it. he did what had to be done, was it boring? NOT REALLY as ive just seen the fight for the first time.

| I can't decide who is worse :
Dipshits in flat billed hats who say "Condit is a pussy who ran from the fight!"
Or
Limp wristed snobs who turn up their noses and say "if you criticize last nights fight then go watch toughman and leave MMA. ITS A SPORT!"
Both are unrealistic and stupid extremes. As usual MMA fans are unable to see the reality somewherein the middle. Mma is a COMBAT SPORT. It depends on a balance of entertainment and real sport. Too much entertainment and we get WWE, too much "pure sport" and we get modern boxing. Both suck.

| It's been that way for a while, there is usually no middle ground for the majority of people. Now it's just amplified because of the number of fans and the availability of outlets. | |

| Aren't fighters mandated to show up to the press conference if they are physically able to, the fact that Diaz wasn't there shows me more then anything that the odds of him fighting again are very slim. At any time he could've turned that fight into a dogfight, for whatever reason he didn't, he chose not to, he chose to get kicked in the legs and face and taunt and let the judges see more action out of Condit. I don't think he was whining at the end, as people say with Diaz this is who he is, he was letting his true thoughts without cliches and PC comments come out. It looked like to me Condit was running, he would slide out turn his back, not that he needs to be in a war, but I thought he would slide out, and be throwing as he came back in, at no time did Diaz cut him off and when Diaz needed to have urgency rounds 4-5, only in round 5 did he try do something to end the fight. | |
