Of course Hughes is going to shine against an ancient Gracie and an inexperienced Almedia, and If I remember correctly Matt didn't exactly look great against Serra.

Granted there was a head clash during that bout.

If Matt didn't look good vs Serra than Serra looked like a turd took a shit.

But really, how does any of that relate to Sanchez beating Hughes? You say he has going downhill, how? By beating people?

Yeah that is just crazy. Almedia fought 10 times in the UFC, twice in PRIDE and 5 times in Pancrase where he won the MW Championship vs Nate Marquart.

Hughes isn't as good as he was 5 years ago because his desire isn't as high as it was 5 years ago.

Tell me what you know about his desire then and now. I'm confused about how that alters his ability to preform since I know nothing about that.

He doesn't seem to want it as much as then. He was fighting for world titles and was hungry for more. Now he's content with fighting every 6 months and only the right opponent. He knows he can never be champ again and he seems fine with that.

I perceive Hughes like a Hendo, he wants to win every belt in every division no doubt, but the drive to compete is the motivating factor for working. He is a competitor. He wants challenges that interest him.

I think Hughes fights for enjoyment now. He seems stress free out there. I think it allows him to take more chances and fight how he wants to fight.

I thinke he loves competition, but he also just loves MMA. He looks like he is really enjoying himself.

this is a bad fight for matt imo. he has been fading for a while now ala tito,chuck,wandy and others. no doubt had it be years ago matt would of dominated diego. now days i see diego taking this fight

I like Hughes's chances. Diego doesn't have that much power and is a brawler, not a technician. I could see Diego overwhelm him, but more likely I see Hughes winning with control, takedowns, and GnP. Same old formula from him. I'm not sure Diego can stop it.

Yeah exactly what I said. I don't think Diego has the power to hurt Hughes and I think Hughes has the strength advantage to control the fight. I like his chances.

This fight is now official and is slated for UFC 135 in Denver, CO.

Lets not forget Hughes is older now. He has slowed down a bit and clearly he has alot of mileage on him. Diego could be able to outwork him here.
