And even if it did, this signing does help that. It's all about building brand awareness. A Lashley Batista fight would do that. If they have freakshows once in a while, while also continuing to promote high level MMA, what is the big deal?
The point has been blowin' up my phone all day. He is fuckin' furious. If the signing does not produce a positive effect for SF, then no, I would not call the signing a good one.

| Brand awareness is the name of the game. Still combating "Ultimate fighting", and trying to make a name for themselves. They are directly courting the millions of people who now buy UFC PPVs thanks to Brock Lesnar. Nobody buys Lesnar fights because of his skills or style, as they are mediocre and boring respectively.
The point is ready to come over to your house and beat that ass.
seriously guys, are we pretending to not get it?

| And I see it as negative attention, yeah we'll let a 41 year old WWE guy with no Martial Arts backround of any kind come in, think they would have learned their lesson with Lashley, that did.......nothing.
And Brock's first fight was all about his Pro-Wrestling fans, everyone has now realized the guy is legit and like watching him fight, his last fight was one of the best of the year.

| This doesn't hurt SF. The primary MMA demographic is former pro wrestling fans. For the rare person who would be put off from the brand for this, 4 or 5 WWE fans fill the void. This cannot hurt the promotion outside of forum fags and mma blog nerds talking some shit on ninjasplace or bloodyelbow. They're all going to watch anyway.
Freakshows aint bad for MMA. None of em.

| They do nothing for me, I see no purpose for them, is this a legit sport? because freakshows like this send the wrong message. | |

LA, if Lesnar was any other fighter and was HW champion, and not a former WWE star, he would not be the PPV blockbuster he is now. You have to get that. I refuse to believe you believe otherwise. You're a smart person. Lashley wasn't any more or less legit than Lesnar. His loss doesn't expose him as someone who couldn't evolve later into a better fighter either. He lost because of his gas tank. Remember he was dominating 99% of that fight until that point, and some questionable reffing cost him dearly. Not every college/olympic wrestler prospect can dominate everyone 4 fights in. James Toney in his MMA debut vs a hall of famer barely out of a title fight is worse than making this feature fight. It's not like this impacts real rankings. It's something that a lot of people would tune in to watch. Have we forgotten a fight promoter's job is to promote fights people want to see?

C'mon man, there has to be a limit to your nut huggery. And Lashley was set to be an Olympic Wrestling Alternate. Lashley is much closer to Brock then Bautista is to Lashley. Bautista is much more akin to Kimbo.

Stop whining. Freakshows have been a part of MMA, and before that Boxing, since the beginning. It's the way it is and always will be. It is a waste of energy to hammer away endlessly misguided angst into a keyboard. Instead, lay 100 bucks on Lashley and make 12 back. Sit back and enjoy the ride. It's not like GSP or Nick Diaz are being forced off cards for James Toney, Kimbo, Walker or Batista. What if Strikeforce creates 100,000, or fuck that, 10,000 new real fans because of this fight? Is it bad for the sport then?

| Lashley lost cause he didn't like getting hit
I acknowledge that intially Brock was all about PW fans, and still has those fans on board, but now a lot see he is legit and have become fans, I never saw Brock once in the WWE.
Toney was a Boxing Champ, he may have had no clue what he was gettin into, but he had a very legit Martial Arts backround.

And I agree Lashley is super weak, but don't compare Bautista to him. Lashley was on the Olympic team b4 the hold up. Bautista is Kimbo like. The only fight I'd like to see Lashley in is vs Bautista. Why? I have no clue, I haven't watched pro wrestling in 20 years.

| I don't think SF is being dishonest about this. This is a fight for pro wrestling fans. If some of them become SF fans, is that a bad thing? | |

No, but obviously MMA purists(ie UFC=MMA) will look down upon this. And some of these "purists" make up a large % of MMA media, a media who loves to give SF a hard time.

| This is like the dork you went to high school with that brings a hooker to the high school reunion. Everyone knows what's up no matter how many fake awkward stories the guy tells. | |

MMA purists are ones who don't think like that and think exactly opposite, IE us. Sure some of us will be pissed off, but anyone who thinks "UFC = MMA" is probably a former WWE fan, or otherwise an idiot only engaged in the mainstream. This is the exact kind of marketing that appeals to them.

But figured the (UFC=MMA) would cue you all to my ironical tone. I'm sorry.

If a dork takes a hooker to the prom, and then takes her to where ever to seal the deal, he is no longer a dork, that's manning up.
