| I wouldn't mind it, except that we already have a situation in which worthwhile fighters are stuck on the sidelines for much longer then need be. If Batista comes in and takes a spot on a big show over a legit fighter then that is totally lame.
Conversely if the presence of Batista helps SF grow, and actually leads to more TV dates, and thus more spots for legit fighters, then this is all good.

| I agree with capt that the only minus from signing Bautista is that career fighters and guys that figure into the rankings in Strikeforce will miss spots on Strikeforce's main cards which seem to have been cut down to now only 4 fights and happen once every two months for a mainstream name to test himself in MMA.
But it's a name and i'm not against ANYBODY trying their hand in MMA. I was not against Walker who i think has enough of a martial arts background and still has the athleticism to be in MMA. I'm not against Toney who has as much credentials to be in MMA as anybody . I'm was not against all the wrestlers PRIDE let fight under their banner. I'm not even against Kimbo in MMA(just the way he was presented in MMA). I'm not against Batista. Pretty much it's just Strikeforce's show structure that makes me groan at the thought of signing Batista. They need to put on more cards with their rapidly growing roster then hardcore fans might not care so much about these signings.
It's not embarrasing because millions of people who otherwise would not care about MMA will care about MMA for Batista. Lesnar was an instant draw because of wrestling fans. I'm not likening Lesnar and Batista as fighter but like it or not, pro wrestling fans still in the multi millions and a lot of them only tune in when there is a former pro wrestler giving it a go. Lashley was not a third of the draw Batista is and Lashley did a lot of good with his name recognition. Strikeforce still needs to start drawing casual fans, especially since they run on a ratings model. All the hardcores who want to say it's embarrasing will still watch.
It might turn out embarrasing for Batista. He's an old guy as well and despite his look, he's not half the athlete Walker is. Walker is still in way better shape than the average MMA fighter.

| SF is setting themselves up by doing this
How did Lashley work out? very very poorly and he actually had a solid wrestling backround at least coming into MMA and a couple fights coming into SF. He brought in those same eyes Batista is supposed to bring, and what did they see? Lashley getting beatdown and looking like a bitch against a nobody. What is gonna go differently with Batista? he's gonna either fight a total can first and win looking horribly or a semi decent fighter and lose, showcasing the fact he has no clue what he's doing. In the end those Pro-Wrestling fans are gonna look at SF, compare it to what they've seen with Brock and say to themselves, "this isn't as good as the UFC". This is going to work for maybe 1 event, and the funny thing is, he may fight in a nontelevised first, lose and there goes any eyes/money he would have potential brought in.

| Well I quote Brock Lesnar when I say he will either be good at this or he won't. If he is not a bad signing, if he isn't? Thanks for the effort. if you are ever in town again, call me and I will get you some tickets. | |

| Lashley was never that big in the WWE to be honest. Batista is a way bigger star. |

Like I care what the booger eaters think? Look I grew up on wrestling, but the operative statement is I grew up. I now watch my sports which are real and occassionally I will stop by to see Ric flair do the walk.

| Batista is only being signed to set up a fight with Lashley or another freakshow star. I am guessing he ends up with less career fights than Jose Canseco. He fights once for SF. That's it. This deal is being done to salvage a Lashley deal. This is a James Toney situation. | |

LOL, I know you don't even believe this, Brock's had 5 UFC fights 4 with one rematch against former Champs (Carwin interim) and the other against a guy whose fought everyone, Lashley and Batista will be losing to no names.

| The point called, and is really pissed off that everyone here missed him so terribly.
Batista is being signed to fight Bobby Lashley. There is like a 90% chance that is the only MMA fight he ever takes. The discussion here reflects the fact no one seems to grasp that at all.

I don't think that that is the point. I think the point is, does the signing of Bautista help SF's long term prospects?

| Does a signing have to do that to be a good signing? No.
And even if it did, this signing does help that. It's all about building brand awareness. A Lashley Batista fight would do that. If they have freakshows once in a while, while also continuing to promote high level MMA, what is the big deal?
The point has been blowin' up my phone all day. He is fuckin' furious.
