| Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says that in fairness to Floyd Mayweather Jr “he was never on board” when the people who represented him were in talks with HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg. Arum told BoxingScene.com “what happened was these people that were talking with HBO, Mayweather was never on board. He never really wanted to do this fight (against Manny Pacquiao) this year if ever.” Arum disclosed that promoter Don King called him and they spent the whole time laughing “because the thing is so preposterous and King said he didn’t know whether he would have him (Mayweather) or not.” King reportedly told Arum “Believe me if I end up with him you and I will make a deal in maybe two hours” to which Arum responded by saying “maybe it will take a weekend but we’ll make a deal.” Tim Smith of the Daily News reported earlier that Mayweather who has been on vacation since beating Shane Mosley last May 1 “didn’t participate in or even acknowledge negotiations” for a proposed fight against Manny Pacquiao on November 13 and indicated that “his cozying up to King is an indication that he’s not too happy with Golden Boy Promotions or his advisers Al Haymon and Leonard Ellerbe.” Smith who is an admirer of Mayweather Jr said King had told him that he and Mayweather had been “hanging out (in Florida)to see what happens” even as he indicated that had been “talking about his (Mayweather’s) future and where he wants to go and what he wants to do. Right now he’s not sure what he wants to do.” http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&id=29838 |

| How is it a PR campaign again if the boxing network and Floyd's manager negotiated a deal?
What a fucking joke | |

| How can you negotiate a fight when one of the fighters isn't involved ?
I am not defending Floyd's actions but Arum's made a big deal out this to make Manny look good and smear Floyd. |

| I'm sick of hearing this nonsense. Pac wants the fight, Floyd doesn't. End of story and time to move on with life. | |

That damn simple of course he was. his authorized representatives negotiated on his behalf, made a fair deal, and he refused.

| It simply doesn't matter.
What matters is Floyd, for whatever reason, is avoiding, has been avoiding and seemingly will continue to avoid the obvious and best matchup in the sport.

| Have Greenburg and Arum's statement
Why would HBO BS fans? Greenburg no reason to lie, he lost out on $$$$$$
"Fights like Mayweather vs. Pacquiao are significant because of these fighters' ability to connect with sports fans around the world," said Greenburg. "It's unfortunate that it won't happen in 2010,"
"I had been negotiating with a representative from each side since May 2nd, carefully trying to put the fight together," said Greenburg. "Hopefully, someday this fight will happen. Sports fans deserve it."
Greenburg-Haymon-Arum put together a deal, obviously good enough that Haymon ok'd and passed it on to Floyd, just for him to say no thanks "Im on vacation"

Fair enough Marble but Arum's whole countdown clock was over the top and uncalled for. And entirely irrelevant to the major issue.

He did what boxing promoters generally, and Arum in particular have done forever. The damage to the sport is ENTIRELY the fault of the balking fighter.

Not really he exploited a scenario that only adds more damage to the sport. and if he didn't, Floyd's apologists would continue to claim that Floyd wants the fight and Pac is at least half to blame for it not happening. At least now it's clear to everyone what the problem is (and has been)

He was promoting a fight that he thought was sure to be made. Bob's just admitted Floyd was never on board, so how could be so sure the fight would be made if Floyd wasn't playing ball ? |

Because only one other time in history has a fighter balked at a fight this big and this obvious. It effectively just does't happen. Now is Arum sleazy?Yup. But that's dog bites man quality news. The issue has been, is and remains the balking fighter

| He had to go thru the process with Haymon, Greenburg, et all for the cards to be laid out to the public...so everyone could finally see the reason why the fight wasn't happening.
Why should PacBoy suffer from the same public backlash as Mayrunner for the fight not happening ? Those were some pretty slick moves from an old crook like Arum.
