I think we both hold him in the same regards, but I am not ready to say he is the baddest man on the planet when he hasn't even scratched the surface of legit title contenders at 205lbs.

I think we both hold him in the same regards, but I am not ready to say he is the baddest man on the planet when he hasn't even scratched the surface of legit title contenders at 205lbs. I'm ready to call him a future Champion of the World....you aren't ready to make that kind of commitment. But I was just making sure you see the extreme potential that has everyone drooling, you said that you do so that is good enough for me. And I didn't say he is the baddest man on the planet just that he will be

I just didn't want you to think I wasn't on his bandwagon at all. I can't think of any young guys with the talent he has?

| I agree about his potential. But most of us are gifted with potential of some kind, it's just a matter of how we choose to use it. What if the guy's burned out and decides to only train a month before every fight after the age of 24? What if he decides that burning tree and sampling the Taco Bell menu weekly is more important than honing his skills and excelling? All of that potential likely becomes disappointment and failure. We see examples in every sport of young people having freakish talent and being miles ahead of the pack, only to be an afterthought in "what if" conversations ten years later...
Love his potential, but I'm not ready to claim he will definitely be world champ at any weight...

This doesn't make a lot of sense. LHW elite fighters are comparatively advanced strikers, where as HW(in the UFC) is dominated for the time being by the one punch KO, takedowns and ground and pound. Randy Couture during advanced age enjoyed success at the highest level of the sport in the HW division but even the 2007 Randy stood no chance against any of the above named athletic LHW counter strikers. Even if Jones lost to both Shogun and Machida by first round KO that reflects little on his ability to sprawl and brawl on the larger, less well rounded wrestlers that make up the bulk of HW in the UFC. Only Crocop and Dos Santos are guys near the top of the UFC foodchain that have LHW level striking.

| Cain V belongs in the same category as the elite LHW strikers? That is like saying Matt Hughes is an elite WW striker. | |

| I won't argue with Cain potentially being there already, and I definitely think he could be there soon. He is as fast as any 240+ pound fighter I've ever seen. He has LHW speed, and speed is very important to advancing a striking game.
Jones and Cain may end up being very similar fighters, and I think approximations of them, and not quite the 265+ pound giants, represent the future of the division. A mid sized highly skilled and athletic HW represents the best chance at long term dominance. One dimensional strength reliant giants will find success obviously, but they're overly specialized and have many exploitable chinks in the armor.
Some like Carwin will run out of fuel easily, others like Lesnar will be very susceptable to other phases of the MMA, specifically striking.
It is quite foolish to assume the future will be dominated by giants with supposedly unstoppable takedowns. It's a nice, primal image and generates a good narrative, but just isn't going to be realistic.

| I think Jon Jones would make Cain look like he is in slow motion. The difference in atheticism is night and day. Jones is truely a freak of nature. It is going to be fun to watch those two fight for the title down the line. | |

| Not to mention he's still green in MMA terms, and he's only 27 which leaves a lot of time to develop | |

really? i think his striking is vastly improving, his speed and technique are amazing IMO improving yes, he is showing great promise in his striking game. But IMO he would be outclassed in striking right now by the LHW elites. I don't think he can touch those guys...yet.

SOONERS you're sounding like you haven't seen much of Cain V fight at all. He was already a more effective striker than Hughes in his second fight of his career against Jeramiah Constant. Other than the shots he took against Kongo he has been well above the elite wrestler curve insofar as his striking development is concerned.

| Jon Jones I don't believe is of a significantly higher athletic pedigree than Cain V. In fact Valesquez is perhaps the only HW prospect who has the raw athleticism of a King Mo or Jon Jones in concert with the natural aptitude for fighting. | |

Yeah that was probably an overreaction but I can't in good faith call him an "elite" striker at this point. He has been pleasantly surprising with his standup. I think his quick evolution have you guys giving him just a little too much credit right now. I mean we are talking about LHW elites, those guys are no joke.

Jon Jones is a better athlete then Mo. I bet he is faster, stronger, jumps higher, runs faster....maybe not stronger but possibly. I think Cain is a great athlete....Jones is a freak of nature.

Not saying he has super powers. But IMO Jones went to the NFL combine with Mo and Cain he would blow them both out of the water. Easy big guy I didn't say he was going to walk on water and tear out Brock's jugular. Just saying I believe he is a superior athlete...not that far fetched of a statement.

Poopy pants?... lol. Yes Wolf... Sometimes the obvious needs to pointed out to bring a conversation back to some level of reality. I guess the old negative poopy pants poster has a hard time seeing topics become the equivalent of a fantasy MMA conversation. Still laughing about the poopy pants and can't think of a childish retort on that level...
