| MW-Nobody gets a shot after beating Bisping. Marqaurdt loss to Leites for Thales a title shot and Marquardt loss to Sonnen is going to get Sonnen a title shot. Marquardt has already lost convincingly to Anderson Silva and would not beat Anderson. Marquardt while #3 in the division and top 5 overall is the closest thing to a true gatekeepr in the UFC all things considered. I consider a gatekeeper to be someone with the key to the top but could not take the throne...this is Marquardt.
LHW- Jardine. Guys seem to be immediatley in the discussion after beating him but it may now be going to Brandon Vera.
HW: Gabriel Gonzaga and Chieck Kongo
WW: Mike Swick. Dan Hardy and Paulo Thiago finally got some respect as top WW's after defeating him.
LW: Clay Guida and Joe Stevenson

LW: Clay Guida and Joe Stevenson Good list, but IDK about MW being Nate, it's not necessarily the guy who is the fight just before a Title shot, I think Bisping fits the bill, or Okami Vera hasn't taken it from Jardine IMO

| Apparently Nate turned down the chance to face Bisping at 114.
If I was Micheal I would be thanking god for that blessing. |

| Nate would steamroll Bisping, Nate wants a better fight
Wandy/Akiyama winner?

| That makes sense although Wandi was keen on a Bisping rematch for some bizarre reason. Must be unhappy about failing to knock him out. |

Vera hasn't taken it from Jardine IMO Bisping is a good one and it's definetly hard to call Nate a gatekeeper but in the current landscape of the division with Anderson as champ, that may be the case. The thing about Bisping is that he's fought guys well established in their spot. Dan Henderson didnt really move up upon beating Bisping he pretty much just kept his spot and Wanderlei did not really shoot up the ranks eitheir because he's fighting Akiyama who is in Bisping territory as far as rankings and such. Perhaps Okami would be a better choice as Sonnen's win against him shot him all the way up to a fight with the top contender in the division and Okami is not likely to be fighting near the top of the UFC ranks in the near future.

| Well Hendo is ranked number 2 on most MW rankings and that was after beating Bisping. I think Bisping qualifies as a gatekeeper. Belcher is to hot and cold, I can see him win any fight depending on the night.

| all jardine is now .. is the gatekeeper to fight Rashararard.
So I think Bader gets rashad next after Rampage who beat jardine before this fight.

| Good lists, but over all I never liked the term or concept of "gate keeper" that much since I like to think of MMA as a fluid sport where today's top 15 opponent is tomorrow's champion.
Former champions are often relegated to gatekeeper status in the tail end of their careers. Hughes, Liddell, and Franklin have all been scraped off the canvas after bouts with immediate title contenders. Rich Franklin has been a gatekeeper for MW.

| Yeah, Golbez makes a good point. Shad didn't look good in his last fight, which he won! His opponent got more props than he did and now his chin looks questionable. Shad may not be quite a gatekeeper, but if he keeps fighting like he has, he will be. | |

| I think Okami is a good MW gatekeeper. That is who Rich beat to get his rematch with Anderson. And when Sonnen beat him that is when he got the #1 contender fight with Nate on the main card. Plus Okami did his part of keeping pretenders out of contending. He beat Swick after he went 5-0 in the UFC and now Swick is not even contending at a lower division. He beat Macdonald when people gave him some hype for beating the TUF stars. Now Macdonald isn't even in the UFC. | |
