| Farmer, I would call that lying. It is kind of a "half truth" since Randy could be considered "in the mix" now that he has won. But really the UFC implied that the winner could possibly get a title fight when they really knew if Coleman wins all he gets is another fight and if Randy wins he just gets a better fight. Loser of the fight was going to be strongly encouraged to never fight again. So yes I consider it a lie in order to pump sales. | |

| "in the mix" is rhetoric of the most meaningless variety that can be said in reference to just about any fight that happens in the LHW division. "in the mix" and "contendor eliminator" are not interchangeable terms. | |

| Dana, Joe and Goldy said the winner would be likely in line for a shot. That is interchangable.
This "in the mix" stuff only started being floated after Randy crushed him, proving it was a lie.

Yeah I think Dana wants you to think "in the mix" means more then it does. That fight was never called an eliminator fight. But no doubt Dana wanted you to think it ment more then it did. But I guess that is just promoting.

yeah whatever, both phrases would be used the same by Dana. Both trying to mislead you to think the winner was closer then they actually were. "in the mix" and "sniffing a title shot" are interchangeable. Not to be confused with "title eliminator".

| Hey what was that so called title eliminator last year or in 2008 didn't actually produce the next contender? Even title eliminator is a lie sometimes. | |

| Ya, you guys can say that and post girly eye rolling emo icons, fact is you've both been engaged into the ins and outs of this discussion for multiple pages of several threads.
I think regardless of the outcome of the discussion, shining light on what exactly "freakshow" means, the concept of if whatever that mean actually "harms the sport" at all, and both promotion's mismanagement of titles and or contenders in light of that, has been worthwhile.
A lot of MMA-fan message board opinion about this is knee-jerky and hasn't been thought out at all.
Do I have no one else who agrees that mishandling of Overeem and bad marketing of bad main events like Couture/Coleman do more harm to the view of the sport than obvious jokes like Kimbo and Walker?

It's just because he used the word "Freakshow". He could have worded it different and got a different response on pretty much the same issue.

Grady Brewer(Contender Champ) has a gym that he brought some wresters and grapplers into. I think it is Bad Boy(Brewers nickname) Gym or something like that. They just brought the MMA part of the gym in about a year ago. Honestly though you can find some good BJJ guys that train at some of the Karate dojos, most of them are military. I use to train at Wilcoxen's and they had some karate some days, kick boxing other days and BJJ some days. Grady's gym though is the only one I know of with all in 1.

Sooner there is nothing different from every week on ABC television saying this could be a finals preview in basketball. When any1 with a winning record is considered a contender. All sports do things like this to hype there sport. If Randy where to win another 2 fights in a row than he would probably be in line for a shot so its not really lying. In the mix means no more than saying he is a good fighter and with a couple breaks could recieve a title shot.
