you aren't getting it

THe Penn State football program today, shares in the punishment that the Penn St. football coach, AD, President and VP brought about.

then yes, its not hard to understand, when you cover up someone raping 10+ kids for over 14 years, and some of those kids were raped on your locker room, you suffer consequences. YOUR PROGRAM THAT YOU WERE PROTECTING SUFFERS THOSE CONSEQUENCES.

We aren't, sending every athlete at Penn State to jail, as Paterno would have been facing and the President and VP and AD are, this isn't that hard to realize that this all stemmed from protecting Penn State football because of the hundreds of millions of dollars it generated. They are lucky the program wasn't punished even more severely

When you cover up something, other people not involved in any way are assigned guilt and punished for it. What I don't understand is how you consider that justice. You even identify the guilty parties yet say all these people who had nothing to do with it should also be punished. That's what I want to understand, is how your sense of justice is warped into a 'punish those not involved' perspective.

Everybody with any involvement in it should rot in hell.

That said, punishing people who had nothing to do with it because the ignorant masses clamor for someone's head is a bunch of bullshit. What are the NCAA sanctions supposed to accomplish? Attempt to deter potential future coverups by saying "hey, if you do what they did, we're going to totally punish a bunch of innocents in retaliation"?

This never was a football (or NCAA) issue. It was a legal issue involving a couple of old men who happened to be involved with football. If Sandusky had been a librarian rather than a football coach, would people be screaming for the the library be shut down? Would the library be fined? Would the library lose funding?

The NCAA punishes because it did have to do with football. The cover up was to keep the football programs image all nice and shiny. Lack of institutional on control gets punished and it fits that description to a T. The players were given the oppertunity to transfer so the only be hurt is Penn State.

"Penn State" isn't going to struggle to find a way to pay for school now that the school he planned to go to can't give him a scholarship - the kids are (these aren't professional football players, 99% of them will be in the same workforce you and I are in after graduation). "Penn State" isn't forced into a decision between playing for nothing or moving potentially across the country from their family - the kids are (90% of the roster is from PA or a state that borders PA ). "Penn State" isn't going to struggle to stay in business - the small businesses of Happy Valley who rely on the hordes of people the football games have brought in may. There will be negative effect for literally thousands of innocent people to varying degrees, and none of them are named "Penn State" or have anything to do with what happened.

sorry not trying to make this about a condo i had tonight

but some dumb fuck who was trying to side with Penn State told me, get this, that the children who were raped were probably gay.
Yes thats right, I fucking lost it.

Sorry Penn State covered up the rape and like I have said before, you tell me this, if you were going to go to a college, and play defense for one of the greatest linebacker colleges in all the land, and you found out you defensive coordinator was fucking little kids in the shower room that you used. WOULD YOU GO THERE

didn't think so.

Penn State gained money, recruits, endorsements and victories off of covering up the rape of children.

THE PROGRAM SHOULD CEASE TO EXIST, THEY GOT OFF LUCKY

On point 100%. The ncaa has overtly decided there were not enough victims so they punished those uninvolved broadly. The football program and athletic department are not people, they are run by people, some of those people are guilty of crimes, they are the ones who should be held accountable alone.

I'm still waiting for a good reason as to why anyone should be in support of punishing those who had nothing to do with this, none has been provided.

GDP is absolutely right. Both in saying that this is not a NCAA issue and in saying that no one has given any reason to why these people should be punished for something they played no part in and had no knowledge of. This is an issue for the courts and law enforcement. Those that were in involved in any way will be dealt with through the legal process.

Im all for the penalties. How did this not have to do with the football program? No it was not a competetive advantage issue, but the football program, the people who not only ran this thing, but built it, were in on this. I don't see how u can seperate the crime from the football program. And it was not something that happened once. It was something that happened, they covered it up, and not only allowed it to continue to happen, but in many ways made it easier for it to happen.

As far as innocent bystanders catching some justice shrapnel. Does that not happen every time the NCAA doles out penalties? Does it not happen when the courts lock up a guy for a DUI and vehicular manslaughter if that guy has a family?

And as said, these kids can transfer. What they don't want to leave the PA?(as if that's even a major concern) I'm sure the guys at Pitt or Temple would be happy to keep them in state. They are not losing home games, so the shops around the stadium should not be greatly affected. I don't see any major suffering going on here.

All in all, I think Penn State got off fairly easy in terms of the NCAA violations. Small stuff in comparison to the reputation hit the school, and all it's alums took.
