waste of money when you don't need a blu ray player to watch blu ray movies.

Something I have wondered, maybe you know the answer. If I purchase a movie from Zune and play it in 1080P, is that quality equal to blu ray?

1080p is high definition video format what Blu Ray movies are typically stored as.

I have only seen a handful of blu ray movies but have seen a ton of movies in 1080P. I remember watching Tru Grit in blu ray and thought it looked amazing. But I have seen movies from Zune at 1080P that looks pretty awesome as well.

Whenever I've watched an HD movie from my satellite and then watched the same one on Blu Ray I've always noticed a huge difference in both sound and picture quality. It's not a waste of money if you watch movies religiously like I do.

Cabin In The Woods - I fucking loved this movie, it was a riot, reminded me of Evil Dead. 4/5

Does your satellite give you full 1080P? I have HD cable and it only goes up to 720P/1080i, I don't get any channels in 1080P and neither do my buddies with dish. But if I buy/rent a movie on Zune it does stream in full 1080P, especially if I dl the move instead of stream since sometimes the stream falls in and out of 1080P. I have surround sound and I also have Turtle Beaches that are fucking awesome to use when watching movies. Sound quality is never an issue for me.

No cable/satelite has full 1080p output yet. The technology doesn't yet exist and the signals have to travel too far. The best you can get out of any kind of satelite/cable setup is 1080i(which improved from 720p just a couple years ago). We'll probably have the capabilities soon though assuming the world doesn't end this year.

Yeah it's 1080i.
What's the difference between 1080i and 1080p ?

The difference is how the fragments are composed. With 1080i you have 540 lines from top to bottom with the odd ones displayed first and the even ones second at a rate of about 30 frames a second. With 1080p it's 1080 lines which makes for a much smoother picture and less pixelation lag/jagged edges. Watching one and then the other you might not notice a huge difference, but side by side it's pretty obvious. 1080i is still worlds better than what we grew up on.

You never answered me. Does your satellite come in 1080P? That's pretty rare.

Put a price tag on your blu ray player and the movies you have bought the past two years.
I watch as many movies as anyone and here is how much money I've spent in the past two years.
Spoiler:
$80.00 for 1.5 tb external hard drive.

Just watched X-Men First Class. Is this part of the new Marvel where they don't kiddie it down?
