Just watched Scarface again on Blu Ray. I don't know why but it was like I was seeing the movie for the first time again, perhaps I've matured or the movie's aged well but I was in awe during the whole time, it's a masterpiece.
Wow. I know I'll get attacked for it because of everyones love of Scarface, but that movie just does not hold up at all. Some parts are still hilarious but that's about it, for me anyway.
I'm sort of with you. I still enjoy the movie for certain scenes but i can't help but find it pretty damn tacky with each viewing. Plus, Michelle Pfeiffer is the shits in this movie(just like all her others) and drags it down atleast 2 points. That is being kind and discounting the shit soundtrack, Pacino obviously not being cuban nor sounding cuban, or...OR the overly unrealistic cocaine use by Montana...give me a fuckin break....plus all the loud colors.
It's not on the level with Godfather I and II, or Goodfellas. like so many place it. Casino runs circles around Scarface as well.
Scarface is a film that turned out a lot better than it should have. It had B-movie written all over it and Al Pacino pushed it to the next level, and there are some amazing scenes..but with how high it's placed, while a good movie, it is highly overrated not just as a film of the gangster/drug lord genre, but in the ranks of Al Pacino's best performances.
Ok, then we are definitely on the same page.
One of my favorite scenes is the 8" hole in the clock that no one noticed. No idea why, but that always bugged me.

I watched that a couple weeks back. It was aight. Too much of an epic battle imo.
As far as Samarai flicks go, check out Zatoichi the blind swordsman. That's my fav.
Twilight Samarai was excellent as well, at least until the totally mushed up ending.

The scene with the female who's limbs had been chopped off was quite disturbing though.

Mesrine: Killer Instinct.
In french with english subtitles. Gangster flick. 2 part biopic. Saw the first part the other night, pretty brutal, and I'd say it hinted at going over the top(kind of like how the final battle scene of 13 assassins did) except that this is somehow based on a true story, which to me is kind of shocking because of just how crazy this guy was(and I know they spruce it up for the theatres, but even if this is in the realm of factual it is pretty crazy). And I still have to see the 2nd part.
Def liked it. Acting was very good. I have seen the main character b4, though I can't remember where. Gerard Depardieu is also in it, and is very good as well.
I highly recommend this to anyone willing to read subtitles(they do offer a dubbed version, but u can't watch a good movie that is dubbed).

Ridiculously underrated and disrespected by the Oscars.

I was very surprised by that movie. I had never even heard of it when my friend brought it over.. It wasn't bad at all. Had some nice ass kickin scenes lol
Fast Five - Waaaay over the top and a little too far fetched.. but I still enjoyed it.

That was like the Rock's version of every Dolph Lundgren movie ever made. Walks around committing badassery while hardly saying a word in the meantime.

Hopefully this means Dwayne is done flirting with Disney.
