| I'm hoping JDS doesn't knock him out early because I won't be able to really rub it in since it would be clearly JDS "catching" a "rusty" Cain coming off a long layoff. | |

| UFC on FOX: Velasquez vs. Dos Santos Breakdown jzmma November 7, 2011 0 Courtesy UFC UFC on FOX 1: Velasquez vs. Dos SantosDate: Nov 12, 2011Location: Anaheim, CaliforniaVenue: Honda CenterBroadcast: FOX, Facebook and FOX.comThe Match-up: Cain Velasquez (-155) over Junior Dos Santos (+125) Past Fight:Velasquez – 1st Round Knockout victory over Brock Lesnar at UFC 121 (10/23/2010) Dos Santos – Unanimous Decision victory over Shane Carwin at UFC 131 (6/11/2011) Record: Cain Velasquez (9-0) Junior Dos Santos (13-1) Breakdown: UFC on FOX will make history when it features the UFC Heavyweight Title fight as the Main Event between current champion Cain Velasquez and the #1 contender Junior Dos Santos. This fight has fireworks written all over it as both of these fighters are undefeated inside the Octagon and they both are very hungry for victory! This fight is fairly even on paper but a few key categories give the current champion the advantage. Below the match-up is broken down within the ten key categories of an MMA fight with Velasquez taking the true “EDGE”: Skill | Velasquez | Dos Santos | Speed | EDGE |
| Stand-up* | PUSH | PUSH | Jiu-Jitsu | PUSH | PUSH | Wrestling* | EDGE |
| Experience | PUSH | PUSH | Age | PUSH | PUSH | Unorthodox Ability* | EDGE |
| Power* | PUSH | PUSH | Size | PUSH | PUSH | Cardio* | PUSH | PUSH |
As you can see Velasquez has the “EDGE”; however, multiple categories have been pushed since these two fighters are still very “even” in many of the categories that define an MMA fighter. Each individual category is detailed below: Speed: Both fighters are very similar in size but Velasquez’s fast hands with varying combinations and his explosive wrestling give him the slight EDGE here. If you’ve seen any of his fights he never stops moving working angles and advancing his position. Stand-up: This is a definite even aspect in this match-up. Both fighters have 8 knockout victories each on their fight resume and they both throw varying combinations with punches and kicks. Their ability to work angles, throw combos, and utilize their explosive power is the best in the division. Jiu-Jitsu: Both fighters are working with the best of the best to develop their jiu-jitsu and they are at a fairly even level right now. We don’t foresee this being a big factor in this fight. Wrestling: This is Velasquez’s category all day. He is a champion collegiate wrestler who has adapted his wrestling into some of the very best in MMA today. He can control the best of them which also opens up his stand-up game. Experience: Velasquez could take the nod here as he is the UFC heavyweight champion who has fought in the main event many times. However, Dos Santos has also been in the limelight with main event status fights as well. Basically, they’re both at the same place in their young MMA careers and they’re about to collide. Age: Same as experience, very similar. Velasquez is 29 and Dos Santos is 27. Unorthodox Ability: Velasquez takes this category as he has the more diverse and well-rounded MMA game. Elite wrestler, elite striker, and elite grappler… Power: Lots of power to go around here. Both fighters have never been knocked out before and both fighters can take a punch. Bombs will be dropped come Saturday…. Size: Similar again in that they both weigh approximately 240-245 pounds with Dos Santos taking a slight height advantage at 6’3” as compared to Velasquez at 6’1”. This will not be a deciding factor in this match-up as they both have a 77” reach. Cardio:Both fighters always come into a fight well prepared and in shape. Velasquez is known for his high pace and unlimited gas tank. 8 of his 9 fights have finished but in his one decision win over Cheick Kongo he kept pressing forward relentlessly. Dos Santos keeps the fight moving and in his last two fights he went the distance. The pace wasn’t as high in these fights as it will be against Velasquez. One last piece to make note of is Velasquez year long layoff; this will not be a factor as he has been training hard and he is itching to fight. This fight is definitely an excellent match-up that is even in many categories. However, Velasquez has the more diverse and well-rounded MMA game giving him the “EDGE” in this fight. There will be a lot of respect given to each fighter when the cage door closes which will make this fight go into the later rounds. It’ll be a strategic fight with Velasquez walking away victorious via KO/TKO or Unanimous Decision and with Velasquez as a moderate favorite Dissect loves a play on him all day! Dissect’s Pick: Cain Velasquez via UD or KO/TKO (-155)Odds via BetOnFighting.com.

What his striking is, is levels, levels more effective for winning fights. JDS has better boxing but I think Cain has just as good if not better overall striking when you throw in kicks and striking from the clinch. Short elbows and knees go to Cain also. SICK DAWG, SICK STRIKING!

| Cain has the best leg kicks in the HW division out of someone like Pat Barry. His standup is fantastic and the dude has shown a faster learning curve than pretty much every fighter we've watched over the last few years. Either one of these guys could catch and KO the other, but JDS has flaws on his feet other than the fact that he only uses his hands. He keeps his chin straight up on a platter, he's just been miles faster than everyone he has fought. Cain's head movement, kicks, accuracy, and power are all great
Plus that whole wrestling thing and the part about ungodly HW cardio

| R people seriously saying Cain's standup is on par with the JDS?
Dude was getting rocked on the regular vs Kongo. But outstriking old nog and turtle he is now amongst the elite?
Freaking crazy talk.
Cain, if he is to win, does it via relentless wrestling and cardio.

| Getting hit and trucking through three times is not getting rocked on the regular. | |

The fight was a standing affair for about 1 minute total, cain got rocked 3 times in that minute. No way am I putting him on JDS's level.

Saying it is only a slight advantage still baffles me.

U posted a break down that gave it a push, Bobbitt followed up saying he is at the top of the hwy strikers(or something like that). I just see a clear edge for JDS here.

| People have been telling Velasquez his whole life that he cannot have as good of striking as JDS, he is tired of people telling him what he can and cannot do. | |

Not by me! I'm very confident in my statements about JDS standup compared to Cain's.

That they are overrated and calling his standup game sick is crazy and it's good at best. Yeah, I'm comfortable with that.
