A lot of forwards are better defenders than Dirk...fact is, KG never made it as the big ticket...he could only make it with the big 3.

and his defense is not equal to Dirk's offense as evident when Dirk smoked him head to head in 2002. If his defense was such an equalizer, how come Dirk avered about 35 for the series with KG guarding him? Don't blame Wally.

Right. What was the catalyst that guided the Celtics to their last championship? Their instantly best D in the league anchored by the best defender who made everyone around him better.

If dirk joined the Celtics in 08 they don't win the championship. The Lakers do.

Marion, Kidd, Stoyk, Terry.... Bunch of pro vets. You think KG had to be the only option on a championship team? He doesn't. He's doing more than just getting points in that series and every game he plays. He facilitates his entire team on both sides.

KG = Better at basketball than Dirk. Live the moment all you like, that's what it's for, but KG is better.

That will be a minority opinion when both are gone and the moment has passed, if it's not already a minority opinion now...like i said, i've preferred Nowitzki over KG for a long time now.

If you have read the thread surrounding the playoffs, i have raved about the supporting cast around Dirk..but the fact is, they are a supporting cast. The Celtics were not built around Kevin Garnett...they were built around Kevin Garnett and two other all stars.

Also, i don't get how you come to the conclusion if Dirk was on the Celtics team in 2008 the Lakers would have won, considering a deeper, more talented and experienced Lakers team coming off two titles(not to mention WITH Andrew Bynum) had zero answer for Dirk Nowitzki and an average defensive team and failed to win a game this season...put that with two all stars in Pierce and Allen...you probably have Celtics as champs again..perhaps in a more high scoring fashion but Kobe and a deer in the headlights Pau and Odom, with no Andrew Bynum is NOT going to beat that trio.

and saying Dirk, Pierce, and Allen would have beat the 2008 Lakers has zero to do with who is better between Garnett and Dirk...there is just no way the Lakers were good enough to beat a trio like that in 2008...especially considering the matchup problems Dirk has proven to cause for the Lakers. Dirk, Pierce, Allen brings a different matchup than KG, Pierce, and Allen but a matchup too strong for the 2008 Lakers team anyway for different reasons.
