Dirk Nowitzki vs. Kevin Garnett

Two very different players. Almost incomparable. Dirk is a 4 who plays more like a 3 and KG is a 4 who plays a little 5.

Maybe it is close but I would want KG on my team.
The only thing I think Dirk really does better is free throws and 3-point shots.

Dirk can create a shot and get off a good look almost at will. But KG is a far better defender, far better post up player and has a decent mid range jumper. I loved him as a leader for most of his career, Dirk only recently showed some leadership ability. KG was a monster in his prime and I would still take him over Dirk. But they are so different it's almost like they don't play the same position.

KG is like the 7 foot Oscar Robertson of this era.

How many 7 footers have run an offense, how about for 7 years. Not one defensive category can be even approached by Dirk also, and as much of a boner that everyone likes to get over offense, defense is 50% of the equation. Can't act like a guy who averaged around 20, 10, 5 Nine times consecutively doesn't have an offensive game, you don't get to be MVP of seasons and the best all-star games ever with poor O. Dirks distance shooting is better than KGs and his O overall, a little bit, maybe, but the discrepancy on the other side of the ball is way bigger. The comparison doesn't stack up. Dirk might end up playing longer and creep his numbers to bigger, but that potential longevity is partly because he has never and is not capable of playing at the Level KG has exhibited his entire career, very few players play as intense, focused and serious as him, Kobe comes to mind for players on that level.

If I was building a team around either at their peak I'd take Garnett.

KG talks shit, but he a great franchise player and I would take him over the long haul over Dirk.

Dirk isn't some classy player, he crys to the ref every time one of his many flops doesn't get him to the line. I remember a couple of months ago Okafor blocked one of his layups clean and he went flopping down under the hoop looking for the ref about the no call on the clean block. He then proceeds to trip Okafor to the ground like a bitter little kid. I'm sick of Dirks flopping bullshit and weak flagrants.

KG on the teams Dirk has been in early and Mid 00's gets the ring Dirk didn't. Dirk on the wolves in that time, and they are a sub .500 team.

You have to be kidding me. Dallas is now considered to be the deepest team in the league. Who did KG have that could carry him the way Terry carried Dirk last night? Dallas got some great play from a few players. Dirk is the man, but the team was deciding factor in the series.
