Alistair Overeem Won't Wait For UFC Title Shot

Alistair Overeem, the former Strikeforce and K-1 champion who's been suspended since failing a pre-fight urine test that forced him out of UFC 146, says he won't wait for a title shot when he returns to the UFC.

The Dutch fighter is busy serving a 9-month suspension courtesy of the Nevada State Athletic Commission until December 29, 2012. His manager Glenn Robinson of Authentic Sports Management was on MMA Weekly Radio and shared some info about Overeem's return including the fact that Overeem has been in Florida training at the Blackzillians camp as if he had a fight scheduled..

"First of all, he would have loved to have had the opportunity to fight for the title, but Alistair is a fighter, and as a fighter he will fight whoever they put in front of him.

"Reality is, he's training extraordinarily hard, and whoever gets in front of him is going to meet a completely different Alistair. This guy is just dedicated to rebuilding and rededicating himself.

"He's in great shape. He's in better shape now than when he joined us. He's strong; his cardio is crazy. He's training with pro football players, a whole team of pro football players. We ran out of people large enough to fend him off, so we put him with a whole pro football team to do cardio.

"All that's going to happen is whoever does face him is in a lot of trouble."

So who will be his next opponent?

Good, he doesn't deserve it. Too bad he can't fight Cormier and we can have SF HW Champ vs SF HW GP Champ. But the timing doesn't match up for that either since Dan vs Frank will be around the same time as JDS vs Cain.
Werdum rematch would make the most sense if JDS, Cain and Dan are not options.

They are 1-1 and Werdum is the highest ranked contender the UFC has besides JDS, Cain and Reem himself. The fight makes sense for the division if Reem isn't fighting for the title right away. Also since Dan isn't going to be available, this is by far the most logical matchup to make. But I'll settle for Reem vs Hunt.

Well if you want to be entertained, Hunt vs Reem. But don't be shocked if the logical matchup of Reem vs Werdum 3 is made.

Did you even see the first fight? The gameplan Werdum had in the last fight was bizarre but I think the tournament/title shot being at stake he wanted to get it down to where he had the advantage at all costs.

Not possible for the exact reason Reem won't be waiting for title shot. But that would be ideal. But timing won't allow that to be possible.

Unless Reem is forced to wait until atleast February, I don't see how it can be possible. Even if Dan puts Frank away in the 1st minute of the fight. Assuming that fight takes place in December, Reem would probably have a fight already scheduled if he was going to fight by the end of January. The Dan-Frank fight and Cain-JDS fight should be around the same time. So if he can't fight JDS, Dan is probably out of the question as well. How healed up is your boy Mark Hunt? Time for another underdog story...

Who's Barnett fighting?

I dont care who he fights as long as its soon after he is back.. he definitely spices up the division.

Barnett said he hopes to fight again this year and he expects it to be with SF. But that's the only info out there about Josh right now.

I'm pretty sure his next fight will be with SF. It was said that both Dan and Josh would fight 1 more time in SF. Josh said he expects his next fight to be with SF.

Yeah please god no more Overeem vs. Werdum.

Cormier would be nice, that way Daniel could solidify his GP win.

For the exact same reason Reem isn't going to fight JDS-Cain winner. Timing. The JDS-Cain fight and the Frank-Dan fight will be in the same month, around the same time. So if Reem isn't willing to wait for Cain-JDS winner and UFC title shot. Why would he wait the same amount of time for Dan? It's the exact same timing issue that Reem is talking about here and not waiting for title shot. Both fights should take place in December.
