| That's the sign that should be in front of every existing gym in America. We need fighters. Fight programs in inner city schools, secret pay for amateur fights and pursuing big guys in High School not involved or effective in basketball or football. Hell, if you have a big kid tell him to give it a shot. This is America. We can do better than this. Quite frankly, it's embarrassing. My take. (Note: Please stay away from all Correctional Facilities. Why teach criminals how to fight? So they can kick your ass in the middle of a mugging?) | |

Something like the following let he who has courage and a strong and collected spirit in his breast come forward, lace up the gloves and climb in the ring.

| no surprise to me, the main demographic for boxing is hispanic males 18-39
walk into a gym and who is the majority
hispanics 18-39, boxing used to be a college sport
Think if college boxing was a sport and there was a college Heavyweight champ, light heavy, etc. that would generate prospects yearly

| No offense to you guys but MMA is taking over. If boxing had 1 or 2 bodies and it wasn't corrupt boxing would still be thriving but a lot of people have had enough and all the casual fans prefer the UFC these days. |

Think if college boxing was a sport and there was a college Heavyweight champ, light heavy, etc. that would generate prospects yearly I agree having boxing as a college sport would generate interest and prospects, but the question would be how long you could keep guys in school knowing that (especially at lighter weight classes) they could go pro and make money. Same issue for the big NCAA sports I suppose. But I do think it gets more kids high school age and younger into the gym if they realize they're not getting in to college on a football or basketball scholarship. The other issue would be the standard amatuer vs. professional style and training concerns. Shoe-shiners don't win in the pros, so if you get a school that's only interested in NCAA titles and trains their guys to win at that level they may not produce quality pros at all.

It'll never happen. The death of Charlie Mohr in 1960 forever ended collegiate boxing being a mainstream thing.
