BoxingScene.com was advised by sources in South Africa that junior welterweight contender Kaizer Mabuza has no interest in a fight with Victor Ortiz on December 11. Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer had named Mabuza as one of the possibilities to face Ortiz in the HBO televised co-feature to Amir Khan vs. Marcos Maidana at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
The IBF recently ordered Devon Alexander to defend his title against Mabuza by the end of the year. Alexander, who also has the WBC title, is expected to vacate his IBF belt in order to move forward with a scheduled unification with WBO champion Timothy Bradley on January 29.
I was told Mabuza is going to wait until the IBF orders him to fight the #2 ranked contender for the vacant title. The IBF has already approved Zab Judah vs. Lucas Martin Matthysse, set for November 6, as an eliminator for the #2 position. Mabuza is poised to fight the winner for the vacant title in early 2011. And there won't be any negotiations. I hear he wants to go straight to a purse bid, where his promoter Branco Milenkovic is going to do everything possible to send the fight to South Africa.
