Richard Schaefer trying to make John Murray vs Victor Ortiz for Dec 11th undercard

If Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has his way, there will be an explosive HBO televised co-feature to Amir Khan's defense of the WBA junior welterweight title on December 11 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Schaefer has expressed his interest in matching Victor Ortiz against John Murray (29-0, 17KOs) in a junior welterweight contest.

It's not clear if Murray, who returns on Saturday in Wigan against Andriy Kudryavtsev, will take the big risk by moving up in weight to face Ortiz. On the other hand, Murray has been chasing a fight with Amir Khan for years. A win over Ortiz would likely get him in position very quickly. Schaefer will speak with Murray's promoter to see if the fight can be made.

"I will be speaking to Murray's promoter Mick Hennessy to see if Murray is up to the task and if the fight can be done," Schaefer told The Sun.
