| My grades remain relative to THE MAN champions across history.
Talent-He's good sized for his division, very, very smart in the ring, decent feet but he lacks a big punch. C
Achievement-Some good wins, but he's not been THE MAN yet and he still fights too infrequently. C-
Marketability-I think this kid is very bright, very well spoken and yet has a predatory instinct in the ring. He's a little like Ray Leonard and Alexis Arguello in that. This kid should be a star. A-.
Support System-That he isn't a star already demonstrates limitations in this area. His trainer seems solidC-
Growth Potential-Without Limits. Clearly willing to fight the best and with the remainder of this tourney and then guys like Bute and Pavlik and maybe even a BHOP or a Pascaul he has plenty to work with. A.

| Talent B Can add a lot more to the what he already has
Achievement C Good resume so far, has a long way to go
Marketability C Could be boxing staple in the Bay Area and US, his team could be doing a lot more.
Support System C See above, his promoters havent done much with the built in Bay Area fanbase
Growth Potential A Has the ingredients to be something special

Growth Potential A Has the ingredients to be something special To me you can only blame the guy's people under "Support System" for failure to promote him well. Ward himself is highly marketable.

Yep, why both got Cs, marketing the guy falls on his team They have been absolutely lazy when promoting his fights out here in the Bay Area

They have been absolutely lazy when promoting his fights out here in the Bay Area That's the point I'm trying to make - there are two categories there for a reason. "Marketability" should just be about the potential of the fighter himself; whereas "Support System" is where the critiques of his people come into play. To me Ward is an "A" for marketability, but I wouldn't argue with the "C" for support system.

| Got it
Well then Ward should be doing more himself! lol
Delaying your tournament fight and going silent isnt helping his marketability!

Are your ratings comparing them to the "man" in all weight classes or just their weight class? Because Slappy Joe is a top 3 SMW of all time

All of ttem. That Slappy Joe is a top 3 all-time 168 tells me everyhting I need to know about the crappiest division in boxing history Do you grade on a curve? Because being graded alongside guys like Robinson and Pep is like having those freakin' kids you always hated in school because they would get 100%s on everything.

| Talent-B+. He's a jack of all trades. Most importantly, he finds a way to win because he's hungrier. Recently, he has just been slowly breaking down fighters in the ring. I love watching him dissect people.
Achievement-B. Olympic gold. Undefeated. Among the best in a deep division and fighting to prove he's the undisputed best. If he gets out of the Super Six clean that's a career accomplishment.
Marketability-B-. He's too vanilla. The sad truth is people don't support hard-working, intelligent fighters with character. His personality won't sell fights for him, neither will his style.
Support System-A-. He hasn't lost a fight in a very long time. He's extremely well prepared for his fights and says all of the right things.
Growth Potential-A-. If he keeps winning, he'll be a star. His style and lack of flamboyance will likely keep him from becoming a mainstream mega star, but who knows. |
