I'm surprised this debate hasnt been alot bigger than it actually is.

The fact of the matter is, is that like many people have said....EVERY race is racist.

I dont think you can say any particular country, or race, or ethnicity is any more racist than the next. Its all pretty even if you ask me.

Racism will always exist in some form, regardless of if it is racism against your ethnicity, your sexual preference, religious beliefs, or just regular household values.

you can't make a general statement like that. There are people in the united states who are indeed racist. There are also people who are not.

the question should have been... Does America accept Racial profiling? In that case the answer is yes.

Yes you can. Most people in the US are racist. Most people in the world are racist. Because you've tricked/convinced yourself you're not racist doesn't change that.

You really don't think most people aren't racists? You live in Pretend Land of Good Intentions with all the baseball writers who pretend only the ones caught did steroids and that the whole sport hasn't been juiced to the gill since the 1970s.

Nah not since the 70's for steroids. Probably a handful in the 80's. But steroids go hand in hand with weightlifting and until the 1990's the baseball conventional wisdom was lifting and baseball didn't mix .

Just watch footage from the 1970's and 1980's. Most guys look like surfers.

Im not saying that. I know that there are a lot of racist people in this country. But to say America is racist means that everyoe who lives here is racist and that is not true. I am not a racist and i don't discriminate. When i meet a new person i don't instantly see the ways we are different. Instead i see how we are the same and what we have in common.

I'd buy that. That makes sense. I was applying what I think about football across the board.

Yup. Would you believe that the 1963 Chargers were taking dianabol as a team during training camp?

I don't think what causes racism can be willed away so easily unfortunately. As time goes forward I expect things to become more contentious in ways and for reasons different than before(but ultimately the same)

The daughter of a slave voted for Obama. We're not that far removed from human slavery, let alone racism.

What does racism mean to you anyway oggy? What causes racism? Don't just say "ignorance". What really causes it?

racism is a conditional learned behavior. Racism to me is when someone has negative feelings about someone based on RACE ALONE. For example if you take 2 people who have all of the same characteristics and behaviors and you accept one because he is a certain race and reject the other because they are a different race, that is racism to me.

That simply isn't a defensible view. There has never been a human society across culture or time that wasn't either ethnically homogenous or didn't express racism in its laws, literature, art or mores. Or both. None.

Lower primates like chimps and other apes are extremely violent and intolerant of other groups in their same species. Racism is a learned behavior, there are no differences between races etc. are lies that mainstream thought consciously has to tell itself otherwise American society couldn't function.

It isn't sustainable.

we are extremely intelligent beings and are capable of seeing past the stupidity of racism. Just because a chimp does it doesn't mean we have to. Chimp's also shit in their hands and throw it at each other. Does that make it acceptable for us to do? We need to stop using history as an excuse to be set in our ways. We are supposed to LEARN from past mistakes, not repeat them. The day that everyone realizes that we are all after the same basic things to survive will be the day that we can start working together to achieve that goal.

Now back to reality though.... while i try really hard to keep an optimistic approach that the we will eventually start to think as the human race as one, that is as likely as me and wolf agreeing on any subject. Just not gonna happen. Before i get blasted for having utopian ideas and getting blamed for shit that doesn't make sense i just thought i'd mention that. There are false institutions running the world and at least in America, the goal of dumbing down the population to the point that they give consent without really giving consent has succeeded. They can have their way and we will basically eat it right up because most people get their news from propaganda machines known as television news channels.

anyway im too sleepy to go on.... Sleep

Have you heard what the FBI is supposed to have on MLK? He was no different than anyone else. I don't think his ideals are that realistic in the long term, no.

I wouldn't worry Oggy, you'll recover from your Chomsky idolatry. Almost all of us do. Laughing

Just for your general font of knowledge FEWER people get their news from the networks than at any time in the past 50 years. ABC, CBS and NBC have seen there viewership get cut in half over that time.

Here is some information showing the collapsing confidence in newspaper and broadcast TV news. 25ish % have confidence in it. That's all.

http://www.gallup.com/poll/142133/confidence-newspapers-news-remains-rarity.aspx

One question you studiously avoid is WHY NO society or culture across time or geography has avoided racism despite man being intelligent.

Lastly, history's first and most powerful lesson? Imperfect men who act as if they have a revealed truth and who rise to power are the most dangerous creatures on the planet. The most prolific killers in history.

PostSubject: Re: Are people in the US racist?   Are people in the US racist? - Page 2 EmptySun Sep 05, 2010 10:39 am

i get my news from the real news network online. Non-profit journalism is where the truth is. And there are way too many people who still accept what they see on tv news channels. I mean when these channels spend millions of dollars on PR campaigns to brainwash you that what you're watching is "fair and balanced" it's easy to see why so many people are uneducated about politics and the economy.

It's weird because i sort of remember you calling yourself someone who considers themselves to be somewhere between a libertarian socialist and an anarchist (which makes it weird that you would blast Chomsky). But what i continue to read from you seems to be the exact opposite. The same pro-capitalist by any means necessary as long as the status quo is untouched mentality that pretty much made us the single most hated country and civilization in the world. And any time i bring up any type of suggestion for change for the better or social improvements i get blasted for having utopian ideas and am told that people who like to change things for the better are the worst thing ever created and are responsible for everything bad in the history of the world.

I am only asking for what we are told this is. I want a truly representative government. Representing the masses. Not just the elite like we have now. I want honesty and integrity brought back in to politics. I want the government to consider what the people want before they consider what big business and corporations want. I want a fair money system that isn't designed to create instant debt. I want central banks expose for being the corrupt warmongering institutions that they are. I want our country to stop invading other countries and raping them of their natural resources without giving a penny to the people of that nation. I want a true open door policy, not the facade of one. I want the United States to focus on the problems at home instead of focusing on expanding their global empire.

I am not asking for a perfect world as you suggest. A perfect world to me would have no religion or government or monetary system at all. That is not what i am calling for. I am asking the people in in control of our lives to be responsible and to stop recklessly running this country into the ground. Fixing the current system would take a lot of work and isn't gonna happen without some major change or incident occurring.
