Is there one thing that can be done to fix boxing?
I know there is a number of problems with boxing right now. But the main solution to our problems could be the divisions. If we were to trim down the number of divisions and go back to the old weight classes would that solve a bunch of the problems in boxing? It would flood many of the divisions with top talent. A lot of those fighters would be forced to stay in one division and in order to become a star you would have to fight better comp and more often. Could this be the answer? Marble and Dmar take it away. LOL

What about stacking cards? Putting 3 or so top level fights on 1 card. Obviously I'm just an extreme novice throwing out ideas for you real fans to kick around.

thats a start sooner indeed..one simple solution..noo.are there ansers yes..real hard concrete rules to start..every major sport has 1 rulling body boxing does not..1. first as you said eliminate the 17 divisions theres one every 3 or 4 pounds..goo back to the original 8 and add the 140 the 168 jump the LH to 178 and add the cruzier..this makes 11 resonable divisions.2.. the weight in at noon or 1 pm the day of the fight for obvious reasons.3.one real enforceable commision.get ride of the jokers4..noo manditories..the publics demand for a fight SHOULD make it happen hopefully...5.noo striping of a champ of the title unless 1 he goes to jail..ali didnt soo he would not be stripped and 2 tyson if he was champ would be stripped..outside that an if the champ does not defend his title in a year he shall be deamed retired and lisence revolked for a year and a half..the only exception is medical circumstances like vitali had when he was going to fight rahdman..the fight was to be within that time frame but injuries happened.6.one legit ranking commitee..i sugest ring mag and adding burt sugar fat dan max kellerman and al berstein to the commite..7.a champ must defend his title by facing a top ten rated fighter..briggs and harrison are not in reality..the lower classes the 112 118 126 the top 12 or 15 cause we are combining several phoney classes into real one.8.all fighters are to be fingerprinted when signing a fight except when one reaches a exempt states cause you know who he is..the k brothers etc etc..this prevents a sam jones record 11-10 -3 with 6 kos from fighting a up n comer cause the fingeprints reveal he is joe jones 11-44 3 and gas been koed 21 times..it reduses mismatches..tv and all state and national boxing commisions sign to this agreement that is irreversable..theres a start...one champ per division means contenders fighting each other instead of being inactive awaiting a phoney strap...a champ retires a tourney of the top 4 is set up..

Even with all of the crap belts, crooked promoters, and shady networks that are slowly killing boxing: The easiest way to "fix" boxing, fix as in make it better, is to simply have the best fighting the best.
Good fighters fighting each other often, will be a quick cure. All people want to see is the top level guys facing off against each other.
On a related issue: Also to have the top guys at least fighting 3 times a year...

Dmar I have a question. What if boxing put together a boxing version of the BCS. You could make a ranking system just like that and crown one champ. That could keep all the sanctioning bodies happy by splitting the sanctioning fees among them. You could structure it by allowing each body to give a top 10 and then have a group of boxing writers provide another part of it. Does that make sense?

They plan on having him fight the winner of Lesner vs Undertaker in a triple octagon match.

If I could pick one thing and didn't have to worry about legal constraints or morality?
I'd have one monopoly promotional vehicle. One set of titles.
Of course that is the worst possible setup for the fighters. And yes, we could do worse than puitting it under the auspices of Vince MacMahon.
The reason for this is simple. I think the biggest long-term problem facing boxing is the lack of talent, both in the ring and in the corners. I think the solution to that is to create household names. One champion per division allows people to understand, without being a boxing geek, who the best is at any given time and makes it clear that if someone can hang on to a title for 4-5 years they are great. Household names is the first step to these men becoming role models or heroes and getting younguns to say "I want to be like him. I want to box."

What would having 2 major title fights on the same card do for boxing? Is that an awful idea?

There has been stacked cards in the past that haven't delivered, stacking cards isn't going to solve the problems.

Just curious, how would something like Klits vs Haye and Paq vs Margarito do if they were on the same card?

one fight card or even 5 with so called dual titles does not help nor correct the several and severe problems boxing has which are 1.to many divisions2.too many phoney champs up to 6 per division..one only is a must3. phoney ranking systems..thompson was number one..why..why..one effective only ruling body not 5 or 6..stop striping a champ of a title unless for the 2 only reasons i gave...untill ALL thses are corrected efectively the small bandaide approach of a big fight card means nothing..nothing..it corrects nothing either.
