True LW Contender: Florian/Maynard

Well a lot of people consider Kenny lucky, but he really is one of the very best fighters in MMA and arguably a top 10 P4P fighter as well. Maynard the ability, but I am not impressed with his overall resume'.

Except he never beats top ten fighters. He just destroys top 15 fighters.

and Maynard cuts like hundred year old rice paper.

I see Maynard wrestlefucking florian for 15 mins, Maynard is a big 55er

cool fight, but weak as a contendor eliminator. I mean, Penn vs Florian 2 should not happen. Really brings into question the strength of the UFC 155ers.

I think the UFC would be better served sending Florian to Strikeforce. If he dies he dies but if he beats those guys he proves the UFC is better and still gives Kenny a chance at mattering without having to stink up title fights in the UFC.

I still think he needs another win. He was dominated so bad against BJ in the 1st fight I just think it is to quick to throw him right back in there with him if he beats Frankie. If Frankie wins and Kenny runs through Maynard I dont have a problem giving him a shot then though.

But he just murdered the second best LW of all time and the only competition BJ Penn has on the goat label in Gomi. His next fight is against the guy who should have been number 1 contender anyway. So if he beats Maynard, I'd actually be ok with it.

I guess I really couldnt argue against it but it seems to soon.

We also need to remember that this might not be the same Kenny that fought last August. He has a whole new camp with elite wrestlers and great coaches. His whole striking style is different. He's got more of a boxer's stance now than his old stand tall Thai stance. I can't help but think that Kenny would have destroyed Frankie Edgar, and BJ couldn't. I think he can make it a better fight this go around.

Either way the winner of this fight deserves a shot at the title. I have felt for the last year or so that Maynard would be the champ one day. BJ is the only guy that I think can beat Maynard, maybe?

I never knew til i read this that bj hired gray, that would be awesome to see them fight now that i know about their history

IMO Dana should do just Kenny like he did Hendo. Say the winner gets a title shot but really only if the winner is the guy who hasn't got a title shot. If Kenny wins I hope DW does the Lee Corso and tells Kenny, Not so fast my friend!

Really? 3 wins is all he needs to get his 3rd shot? Jon Fitch fights in a WC that isn't as deep as LW and he had to win 40 fights and kill fiddy men to get his 2nd title shot. I think Kenny should really, really have to earn that 3rd shot. The LW division is too talented for Kenny to be getting his 3rd shot already.

Guida,Gomi and a win over the #1 contender Maynard is enough in my book. Who else should get the shot ? Evan Dunham has only just appeared on the scene and Nate Diaz is inconsistent.

I suppose you could make a small case for George Sotorolkpojndipvn.

Who wants to see fights finished at 155?

Kenny finishes fights, usually in an exciting manner. Fitch couldn't finish a fight if his life depended on it.

I don't know if he earned it or not, but it seems like just yesterday he was offering absolutely nothing (aside from stall tactics) against BJ.

I seem to remember the Carpenter getting kicked hard in the face from Diego Sanchez and hopping right up like it never happened and doing his Carpenter thing. Last December he took a short right from Kenny, under new management, and got dropped like a poleaxed mule and looked almost KTFO. Kenny isn't the same Kenny that met BJ last time and it is quite possible that the outcome will be different. Either way, he needs to concentrate on beating Maynard.
