Why are boxing discussions so much boring than MMA ones? Is it directly related to boxing being boring compared with MMA or is that incidental?

Well you can be a fat 147 or a muscly 147. In every sport in the world they are better now than 50 years ago.

completely disagree

they fought 5 times more often back then and there were more Big Time fighters

1 title per division and hungry contendors every where

If they fought 5 times more back then that would mean they were never in peak condition and were always hurt. That makes them tougher not better boxers.

no way how in the hell does fighiting 2-3 times a year make you a better fighter than someone staying fresh

sorry jsut gotta completely disagree

you think Wlad beats a prime Foreman or Ali?

guys like Barbados Joe Walcott going 40 rounds?

if thats true why did James Toney have such a good career while active? let me guess because he fought in the 1990s and not 1950s

Julio Cesar Chavez ring a bell?

active fighters of today disprove your theory

On the whole athletes now are physically superior than they were fifty years ago. We have incredible advancements in science, medicine, biology, and a much better understanding of the human body itself than we did 50 years ago. Better physical training programs, specially fitted diets specific to a person instead of a group, surgical advances that allow recoveries from injuries that even as recent as thirty years ago were career ending. I'm not going to touch on skill because that's relative but there is a reason why some olympic records are being shattered now than stood for years more and more.

I didn't say every fighter was better. FMJ and RJJ deserve to be mentioned with the all-time greats though.

Exactly. Every record in every sport basically has been set in the last 10 years.

Bert Sugar's mind is stuck in 1936. Move with the times. It's like saying Jesse Owens is 1 of the top 3 sprinters ever. He wouldn't even qualify for the olympics in this day and age but for his time he was a class above. Mayweather's best division is 140 not 147. Roy Jones is top 20 of all-time. If Henry Armstrong fought in this era he wouldn't have more than 5 defenses over 2 years.
