| http://www.ringtv.com/blog/2205/the_best_of_all_time_a_to_z_charles/The Ring series continues and I think this is one of the more obvious choices. Ezzard Charles. An excellent middle, perhaps the best 175 that ever walked and THE MAN at heavy with nine defenses. He went 5-0 against Burley and Moore. THAT's special. The honorable mentions are Tony Canzoneri (who has an argument at least for the top spot), Cassius Clay, Marcel Cerdan, Julio Cesar Chavez and Billy Conn. I have a real problem with Cerdan. First, there is simply no way he belongs ahead of Chavez or Conn. Both of them beat a far higher quality roster of fighters than did Cerdan. My other letter C pick would have been Kid Chocolate. More wins than Cerdan and while Cerdan beat Tony Zale and handful of other top guys, Kid Chocolate beat Fidel LaBarba, Benny Bass, Al Singer, Bushy Graham and gave Kid Berg and Tony Canzoneri everything they could handle. | |

| Victor Cruz would be my pick. One of the best to ever do it. | |

| Marble, I think this is a great series and I appreciate you bringing it to us. That said, I think Cerdan is right where he belongs. Maybe I'm over-reacting to his win over Tony Zale but when a guy beats, "Tony Zale", well... he beat Ton Zale!!!! LOL : | |

| i dont have a problem with cerdan being honorable mentioned unless they limited that to 5.then ill agree with marble the other 3 id propably place ahead of cerdan.cerdan was a top 10 all time great middleweight and his courage in the lamotta fight was that of a lion..chavez did so many things well and billy conn fought the whos who..kid chocolate even thought at times had a distain for training was a very talented fighter that fought in a era of deep bantams and featherweights and in any era would of been in the elite of that era......outside of us diehard boxing fans who explore the history of this great sport charles goes unnoticed.in my mind hes the most underated fighter of all time by the general sports public and novice boxing fans ...this is a interesting series.. | |
