Nighty night Manny

As WEC 50 draws near in August, the home of the best featherweights and bantamweights are already putting together plans for WEC 51 in September and it's likely to be headlined by 145lb king Jose Aldo putting his title on the line with all signs pointing towards a showdown with Manny Gamburyan.

Aldo and Gamburyan both fought on the WEC pay-per-view in April with Aldo running rough shot over former featherweight champion Urijah Faber, while Gamburyan picked up the biggest win of his 145lb career as he knocked out former champion Mike Brown.

Aldo's manager, Ed Soares, confirmed when appearing on MMAWeekly Radio, that the Brazilian was likely coming back for a September fight, and Gamburyan was the probable opponent.

"He should be fighting sometime in September I think. I think that's the fight," said Soares about a fight with Manny Gamburyan. "That's the fight that makes sense, I also heard there were some rumors about that (Josh) Grispi kid moving up the ranks there too, but I think Manny lately has been pretty impressive. People do what they want to do, but I think Manny seems like the right fight as far as the pecking order goes."

What puts Gamburyan over the top in Soares' mind is his knockout win over the former champ Mike Brown, and that's no easy task.

"I think the knockout he had over Mike Brown is a very impressive knockout," Soares commented. "For anybody to do that to Mike Brown, you're definitely amongst the top of that division."

Aldo vs. Gamburyan if finalized would headline the September card, but other top WEC stars are expected to be on the show as well.

Former bantamweight champion Miguel Torres is expected to return on the September card, as well as teammates Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone and Leonard Garcia.

There have been no initial reports about where the September card could take place, but the WEC's expansion has included recent stops in Ohio and Edmonton, Canada. MMAWeekly.com will have more information on the upcoming WEC 51 card as it becomes available.

The sooner the better. Aldo is too fast and packs too much power. I know no one is unbeatable, but Aldo is as close as they come if he stays at 145.

Funny I thought about saying Carwin/Brock winner, but still think the loser could beat the other guy down the road.
