Gym wars do take alot out of you, Jose Luis Castillo is a great example of that.

Of course benoits brain was traumatized, his signature move was a flying headbutt from the top rope for gods sakes. The notion that taking bumps on the mat vs regular blows to the head, legs, and body is anywhere near parallel is laughable. Yes, high risk manuevers as they are aptly called can often result in serious injury like that failed shooting star press. Thats just common sense 101. Jumping up off a turnbuckle 5 and a half feet in the air and even higher up oinly to land on the canvas and usually with some part of you hitting it instead of your opponent is going to make some wear and tear. However for Lesnar and other guys of that nature those instance are usually few and far between due mostly to size and the bad effect Gravity seems to have for them.
Getting pounded on in the gym and in numerous fights(of which Fedor has over 30 fights now) thats 30+ occasions that he busted his ass, got his ass busted, broke his hand(s), got concussed, and got his face busted open in alot of those fights. So learning how to fall safely and how to do so without seriously injuring yourself(most of the time) would most definitely yield less overall damage than getting your melon knocked around two to four times a year and more in the gym.
Chris Benoit is also not the posterboy for Wrestling Trauma either. Look at guys like Steamboat, Hogan, Dusty Rhodes, and even Terry Funk. These guys competed for years and years, some of which into thier 50's and 60's and I see no blatant effects of being punch drunk, or slurring words, or having fucked up eyes that would otherwise indicate serious brain trauma in the long run.

I seem to have taken a liking to him as of late,he seems to have become more humble and likable since his illness(surgery).Having had surgery for a similar problem eighteen months ago,I know why it took him a year to get back in the cage.I would like to have seen him take a tune-up before taking on a beast like Carwin.
