BoxingScene.com broke the news on Monday about the ongoing talks to make a junior middleweight bout between former champions Shane Mosley and Sergio Mora. That fight, if an agreement can be reached, would take place on September 18 at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
As previously reported, unbeaten junior middleweight prospect Saul Alvarez (32-0, 24 KOs) is being penciled in for the same card. Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, is making moves for an impressive card which ties in with Mexican Independence Day. The event will be carried on pay-per-view.
"This will be a very, very big event in downtown Los Angeles on pay per view. It will be at the Staples Center as part of some week long activitities celebrating Mexican Independence Day. So we'll be putting together a big, pay per view card to be entitled '200,' and which will basically be the culmination of Latino and Mexican festivities," said Schaefer to BoxingScene.com.
One of the names being tossed around to face Alvarez, is Matthew Hatton, the younger brother of former champion Ricky Hatton. Matthew had been mentioned as an opponent for Alvarez in the past. He has a tough fight scheduled against Yuriy Nuzhnenko on July 16 in England. Matthew would have to win that fight to keep his name in the mix for Alvarez.
"Names being tossed around include Matthew Hatton (39-4-2, 15 KOs). We are not really locked into him as an opponent," said Schaefer. "We are still looking for difterent options."
