| Dude, Green got his pants pulled down infront of the whole world and was spanked on live tv.
None of the judges gave him a round. |

| Ward looked like shit in the only 2 rounds I watched. I don't think his performance was much to be excited about | |

| Ward looked phenominal. Green looked exactly how I expected him to: a low class C fighter. | |

Ward looked phenominal? WTF? Ward looked like shit too. All he did tonight is throw a punch duck his head and hold Green push Green to the ropes and hit him with nothing punches. |

...because watching 2 rounds of a 12 round fight is enough to critique a fighters performance. I watched all 12 rounds and i thought Ward looked great. He just fought a lot different than we are used to seeing him...i thought what he was doing looked ugly but that's supposed to look ugly, he did a great job and Green had no answer for it. Ward will go untouched in this tournament IMO.

| Ward is a very smart fighter. He understands 2 important things: 1-distance 2-tactics
Against Kessler he realized he wanted to be all the way out or all the way in. Don't sit there in medium range where Kessler's jab and right hand could connect. So Ward stayed at distance, used his quicker jab and right hand, then moved. Lateral movement forces Kessler to reset his feet. And whenever Kessler got into medium range, where he would be more effective, Ward moved all the way in and tied up.
Same thing against Green. Faster hands, faster feet, more active on the outside. Then going BHOP and mauling the guy. I love the way he uses his left arm in close. He didn't hold Green's arms down illegally, but he positions his left arm/shoulder in a way that sort of pinned Green's arms against his body. Green couldn't really throw in close, didn't have his arms in a good spot to get leverage to push Ward off, and could only really sort of sit there and be bullied.
It wasn't pretty but he is very good at adjusting in the ring and neutralizing the opponent's strengths. Ward has done some of this before, the inside mauling against opponents. He just hadn't gone full on BHOP before.
As for Green saying he overtrained. Such a dumb excuse. Even if it is true and you overtrained and thus were completely flat, whose fault is that? You have been a pro for a long time, you and your trainer should know your body well enough to time things.
The place where I can understand a guy overtraining and then having nothing on fight night is with a much older fighter. A guy who has to train so hard to get in shape. And when you are older its harder to understand when your body is peaking and when you are just running it into the ground. Green shouldn't have had that problem.

Ward fought very smart but it was very boring and dirty. I am making zero excuses for Green but Ward looked bad as well. |

Ward will go untouched in this tournament IMO. It was pretty evident that the whole fight was going to play out the way it started. Ward outwrestled a guy who looked like shit and threw no punches. Good for him

| saying that ward looked bad is like saying that bhop looks bad in every fight. whether its true or not, looking bad doesnt matter, only winning the fight matters and thats what ward did. | |

| BTW please tell me Ward isn't getting all 3 fights in Oakland? Where is his fight with Dirrell scheduled to take place? | |

| I can not understand calling yourself a knowledgable boxing fan and saying Ward looked bad last night. He beat the hell out of Green. You really think Green wouldn't have thrown more punches if he could have? He couldn't because he was so badly outclassed. | |

| Ward getting back to back fights in Oakland is shady. It's not like he's a huge draw. He'll get all 3 of his fights in the USA. The fight with Kessler he had all 3 judges local, and a local ref. The Kessler fight would have made a far bigger gate in Denmark.
The Dirrell fight will probably do better gate in Oakland than Detroit.

| Green was a walking corpse. Ward did what he had to do but sorry I'm stopping well short of calling that performance "phenominal" | |

| I said the same thing after Hatton's performance against Kostya even though that's what he needed to do to win. Smart fight sure, but I don't consider it a great performance. I guess it just depends on the way you look at it | |

If thats what it sounds like to you, then you are being misleaded by detractors.

You don't really have the right to criticise Ward's performance if you only watched 2 rounds. |
