| Subject: When Ken Shamrock Was "The Worlds Most Dangerous Man" Fri May 28, 2010 12:49 am | |
| after losing to Royce Gracie at UFC 1 (leaving Ken 4-1) Ken went 7-2 until the December 1994 King of Pancrase tournament Finals.
Ken submitted Alex Cook in a minute 30, and then submitted Maurice Smith in under 5 minutes on December 16th, Ken then submitted Masaki Funaki in under 5 minutes the next day, and Manabu Yamada to a 30 minute Unanimous Decision on the same day. Effectively becoming the first King of Pancrase.
January 26, 1995 Ken beats Leon Dijk in under 5 minutes. March 1995 Ken submits Bas Rutten by knee bar at Pancrase Eye of Beast 2, in 1 minute.
A month later, April 7th Ken is facing Royce Gracie at UFC 5, he controls Royce, cross faces Royce, head butts, punches, and head butts some more to a 36 minute draw. A month later Ken loses to Minoru Suzuki (a man that had Kens number).
2 months later Ken chokes out Dan Severn in just over 2 minutes at UFC 6.
7 days later Ken beats Larry Papadopolous at Pancrase Neo Blood tournament. He beats Larry in 2 minutes. 2 months later Ken controls Oleg Taktarov to a 33 minunte draw. From December 1995 to February 1996 Ken defeats Katsuomi Inagaki, Kazou Takahashi, and Kimo Leopold.
May 1996 Ken loses to Dan Severn in a total bullshit match.
From December 1994 to February 1996 Ken Shamrock went 11-1-2. he had wins over Dan Severn, Bas Rutten, Yamada, Kimo, Maurice Smith, Masaki Funaki. If their were judges he would have had wins over Royce Gracie and Oleg Taktarov. Kens record said 11-1-2, but in reality he was 13-1.
This is when Ken was the best fighter in the world.

| the Frye fight mixed with the Kazushi Fajita and first Tito fight is what aged Ken so bad, those 3 wars in his comeback just ruined him IMO | |

| I think the constant travel and having between 200-300 matches a year ruined him. It did help MMA though because of the exposure he got. |

| Ok everybody, let's clear the air!
This cooked-up notion that Ken Shamrock was at one time the best fighter in the world is one of the biggest farces in MMA.
I'm old enough to remember Ken Shamrock in his prime. I saw him fight live on pay-per-view in the mid-'90s. He may have been one of the best fighters in Pancrase (which was a totally different sport), but he was never the best in the UFC. Royce Gracie, Dan Severn, Oleg Taktarov, and Don Frye were all superior fighters over Shamrock. All of those fighters accomplished something that Ken Shamrock never did: WON the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Back then there were no weight-classes. There was only ONE champion: The Ultimate Fighting Champion. The name of the game was to beat multiple fighters in ONE night and be the LAST MAN STANDING. Gracie, Severn, Taktarov and Frye all accomplished this feat, some multiple times. Ken NEVER did, not even once!
What Ken Shamrock was good for, was business. He was good-looking, muscular and wore Speedos, very marketable and had fans. Well, since Ken can't win a real UFC, let's make a title: UFC Superfight. That way in this fight Ken only has to win one fight and he can be an instant champion. The Superfight title was a slap in the face to the men who won the UFC the hard way, winning three fights in one night.
And another thing about "The World's Most Dangerous Man". For your information: Do you know where he got that nickname? It wasn't in the UFC! It wasn't even in Pancrase! That's right! Shamrock got this nickname courtesy of Vince McMahon in the WWF! When he joined the WWF he was already past his prime. But somehow over the years newbie MMA fans came to believe he earned this nickname in NHB/MMA.
Class dismissed. | |

Class dismissed. Ya bud I know, he was The ROck when he fought early MMA you oviously dont know my relationship with the early days in MMA so spare me the, I know what Im taking about I watched the PPVs bullshit. your flat out wrong about him not being the best fihgter in the world, Notice the guys you try to mention as being better than Ken, got beat by Ken or had draws with him in fights they would have lost to if their was judges DURING THIS TIME. Dan Severn (choked out in 2 minutes), Oleg Taktrov (who DID HE TRAIN WITH WHEN HE WON UFC6?????) got controlled for 33 minutes and Royce Gracie got busted up for 36. Ya Don Frye was so superior he just got both his ankles raped when they fought, ya he totally destroyed Ken. he was lightyears better Add in there is 2 victories over Bas Rutten during this time. Ya your right, Ken Shamrock wasnt good, it was cause he wore speedo's what a fucking joke The SuperFight Title is the lineage to the Heavyweight title so its pretty dumb to say it was a made up unimportant title.

Ken Shamrock got the nickname "The Worlds Most Dangerous Man" from ABC when they did a report on the worlds most dangerous places, animals, etc. Ken Shamrock was chosen as the most dangerous person. WWF was the first to utilize it because that's where Ken was at the time, but it was not a WWF creation.

| Aww shit. Late for school again!
But seriously, as much as we all gave Bird shit for being such a homer for the Shamrocks and Lions Den he is right here. There was a time where Ken Shamrock could have beaten anyone in the world in a fight. He literally went on a tear through the No Holds Barred world and was flat out demolishing people.

| well put Ludo, I dont really get what that one guys argument was, that Dan Severn was better than Ken during this time? how he got choked out, Royce and Oleg got controlled by Ken, Bas Rutten goes 0-2 vs Ken during this time, if Ken isnt the best in the world during this time, then I sure as hell dont know who is | |

| I've gotta give Ken Shamrock fanboys credit! You boys love your Kenny!
Stop using the Pancrase argument! Pancrase may have been a precursor to modern MMA, but compared to the first UFCs and REAL NHB, it was child's play. In the early days of the UFC and other NHB organizations, there were basically NO RULES. These were the days when real champions like Gracie, Severn, Taktarov and Frye were showing their mettle.
Pancrase on the other hand, had MANY rules. Pancrase was basically what pro-wrestiling would look like if it were REAL. In Pancrase, there were:
* NO PUNCHES TO THE HEAD....EVER! * NO ELBOWS! TO THE HEAD.....EVER! * NO KICKS, STOMPS OR KNEES ON THE GROUND! * IF AN OPPONENT GRABS THE ROPES YOU MUST RELEASE THE HOLD!!!!!! * THEY HAD ROUNDS!
These rules are downright LAUGHABLE! You tell Dan Severn to stop kneeing his opponent, or Royce Gracie or Oleg Taktarov to release a hold. Or Keith Hackney to stop punching Joe Son's testicles! Or Pat Smith to stop elbowing Scott Morris in the face about 20 times. Right. And then you have to do it THREE more times to be crowned champion.
Right. Pancrase was real tough. Deeper than any UFC tournament? Please.
