I watched the Guy Fisher and Melvin Williams epsidoes on Bio last night.

Fisher episode is almost all of Guy's family and friends shitting on Nicky Barnes for ratting him out. Then again, Guy was bonking his wife, can' totally blame Nicky.

Williams was real interesting, he actually was on The Wire (alot of Avon Barksdale was based after him) for a couple of seasons as The Deacon.

Well, im glad i'm not the only one who enjoys these kinds of shows.

It's always interresting to see how they operate...you never think about that sorta stuff happening on a daily basis for the most part.

Its also pretty sweet to realize that the gangs I grew up around are nowhere near as bad as these ones that are shown lol...they were bad, but not to that level.

The two neighborhoods I grew up in in Akron were vastly different...one neighborhood was dominated by black gangs, and the other neigborhood, where I spent most of my life growing up was a mix of white, hispanic, black, and asian gangs.

rofl bird. Showing a hit piece on J Edgar Hoover, who collected a bunch of dirt on MLKJ, doesn't disprove this show has an agenda and isn't real journalism. Profiling Hoover as a gangster is hilarious though. The comments below it are even funnier.

I'm not shitting on MLKJ I am just stating facts. Hoover had him followed and wire tapped, and like everyone else, caught him being human. From what I read there are tapes of him buying and then beating prostitutes among other things. For obvious reasons that kind of stuff had to be suppressed. Americans need their heros. The investigation into King was then sealed into well into this century, and there has to be a reason for that...

But BET literally is one of the most damaging networks in TV history. Take a fractured, wounded and oppressed culture, take all the worst elements of it, glamorize them, and package them for fatherless impressionable children with no positive media image to model themselves after. In college and working my first sales job I ran across authors and real people who were black and utterly hated BET for the representation of black people and culture. With the obsticles blacks face from society, and the social problems within their own community like drug addiction, crime, gangs, domestic violence and negative outlooks on women and children born out of wedlock, do we really need networks glamorizing these problems or telling them that is what "being black" means? BET is a horrible channel that exploits black people while simultaniously rendering tangible and measurable cultural damage.
