| http://www.mmamania.com/2010/3/16/1375548/paul-buentello-cheick-kongo-is-not"It depends on which Kongo comes out. It totally depends if he's going for the takedowns and trying to hold people down, or if it's the Kongo that wants to stand and strike. It all depends on which Kongo shows up. No matter what fight I get into, everybody knows which Paul Buentello is going to show up: It's going to be a standup war. We're thinking he's going to go for a takedown. He's not going to want to stand. That's our whole gameplan, he's not going to stand at all." | |

| I think the Head Hunter might be able to catch Kongo. I actually picked Buentello to pull it off. | |

| I could actually see Kongo going that route. He's got pretty vicious GnP when he's on top, but a savvy vet like Buentello may be able to sweep him. I have to go with Kongo in this one thought. | |

| Paul is right look at what Kongo did against Herring. Kongo didn't want to strike at all with Heath which I couldn't figure out. I would rather them trade blows in a standup war cause that's where these guys are at their best but either way I think Kongo is gonna win. | |

| If Kongo was smart this is exactly what he should do. Why risk standing when your chance of winning on the ground is so much greater. | |

| Kongo should be quick enough to avoid getting caught by Buentello, especially after Paul gasses out. | |

But can he take a punch? Couldn't take one from Mir.

But you would still agre Paul can probably still hit harder then Mir? IF Paul gets to Kongo's chin, can Kongo take the shot?

| I don't know that I would argue Paul hits harder than Mir, what with the extra mass Mir has packed on lately. But yeah if by some chance Paul can time it correctly and survive long enough to set it up he could drop Kongo with a flush shot.
The problem here is that Kongo can throw strikes from all over the place, I don't know that Paul won't be too busy getting leg kicked and shit to death and gassing out in the process to set one up.

| He is right, Kongo won't stand with Paul very long....
...because he will smack headhunter upside his head and be forced to finish him with gnp after he chicken dances across the cage.

| Kongo is still one of the better HW strikers around, he should tool Buentello
*Mir's shot on Kongo was a totally eyes closed luck shot, would he have still won, yes, but that was lucky.

*Mir's shot on Kongo was a totally eyes closed luck shot, would he have still won, yes, but that was lucky. I really wouldn't say it was luck. He faked the shot and threw a overhand right. Nothing new when it comes to MMA. This move has been used numerous times.

*Mir's shot on Kongo was a totally eyes closed luck shot, would he have still won, yes, but that was lucky. That shot was very much like Hendo's shot on Bisping and Fedor's shot on Grim.

| Fedor's was just faster to the punch, a pre-emptive power shot on Rodgers. Hendo and Mir's KO's were pretty similar though. Hendo came in pretty strait then ducked into a weird little rightward bob/wind up and came over the top with a huge over hand right. Mir's shot wasn't a KO though but it wasn't that bad. He goes a lot lower than Hendo in throwing his over hand left and makes it look like he is reaching a lot more. But has far as coming in strait and delivering the shot, it looked good. His focus was forward and vision was not really skewed from his dip considering the distance and speed. He basically has no where to look other than directly down the middle of Kongo's upper body. The luck Mir got in that was Kongo getting caught with is arms out and standing a little to tall. All three were pretty decent punches. | |

| step lunge for sure but his eyes aren't closed though and his line of sight is mid chest level when he throws. | |

| Mir targeted that exact spot and threw the perfect shot.
In no way was that a random blind swing as LA is suggesting. LA no offense how much boxing you trained?
That shows how dangerous Mir has become as a striker. Of course there are better strikers than Mir, but Mir has as much skill relative to power and size at the moment as anyone in the UFC besides Dos Santos.
