| Exactly Captain. There is obviously a difference is defense spending and militarism spending.
I don't think this country would be any less safe if we cut the defense budgets back to say 2004 levels.
Then again this is how the paradigm goes. The establishment right want endless militarism spending while the left like Obama claimed to be against these things, then expanded on Bush's foriegn policy and domestic spying policy.

Then again this is how the paradigm goes. The establishment right want endless militarism spending while the left like Obama claimed to be against these things, then expanded on Bush's foriegn policy and domestic spying policy. I don't think Obama has really expanded Bush's foreign policy, he is out of Iraq, we have a scheduled draw down in afghanistan, he stuck a pinky into libya, but stayed clear of much of the arab spring. And I think if he could, he would cut military spending, but is hemmed in by republican congress, and the fear that such cuts would hurt the economy(a big portion of the fiscal cliff was military spending cuts.) The former issue is not his fault, the latter is, but it's a wise political move in that people will be more upset if the economy recedes again then if the debt continues to climb. But the whole fiscal cliff thing did show how dependent our economy is on gov't spending. Scheduled cuts of $150 billion or so were expected to send the economy back into recession? That's a scary thought. Almost expect fear mongering. Seems like an awfully small amount in relation to the nat'l economy. Bottomline however is you are right, Obama is not fighting hard enough to cut military spending.
