Charles Oliveira vs Cub Swanson UFC 152

This week has been chock full of UFC fight announcements for the fall, and the latest one is a particularly exciting match-up, that might just help to decide the title contender at featherweight. According to Mike Chiapetta at MMAFighting.com, Charles Oliveira and Cub Swanson will go at it on September 22nd in Toronto at UFC 152:

While the scrap hasn't yet been officially announced, sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed that both sides have verbally agreed to the matchup.

Both men have seen dramatic career revivals in recent bouts. Oliveira, once one of the UFC's most promising young lightweight prospects hit a skid in early 2011 that saw him get finished by Jim Miller and Donald Cerrone, with a no contest in between after he hit Nik Lentz with an illegal knee. Now reinvented at featherweight, the dynamic Brazilian ran through Eric Wisely and the very-tough Jonathan Brookins, tapping out both (and becoming the first man to submit Brookins, an excellent grappler in his own right).

Despite winning many fight-of-the-night bonuses, Swanson had difficulty stringing together wins in his WEC career. With a renewed focus and a new training camp with Greg Jackson's team in Albuquerque, Swanson has looked much improved and dispatched of George Roop and Ross Pearson earlier this year, both by knockout.

"The Korean Zombie", Chan Sung Jung seemed to be sitting in a somewhat murky #1 contender's spot after choking out Dustin Poirier earlier this spring, in what was widely believed to be a title eliminator. But an injury to Jung following that fight has forced him out of action for the fall and and with Erik Koch now jumping ahead of the pack to get the next title shot against Jose Aldo in October, it wouldn't be surprising to see the winner of Oliveira/Swanson fight Jung at the end of the year to determine a true #1 contender.
