Quinton "Rampage" Jackson wants out of the UFC. It looks like he'll get his wish, but not before fulfilling the last fight on his current deal.
According to a report on Tuesday's edition of FUEL TV's "UFC Tonight," Jackson and the UFC have agreed to part ways after Jackson faces Mauricio "Shogun" Rua later this year.
Jackson has previously said on Twitter that he was amenable to taking the last fight on his deal as long as he would be allowed to part ways with the UFC afterward.
If that is the end, it would mark the close of a rocky five-year relationship which began with Jackson's debut win over Marvin Eastman at UFC 67 in Feb. 2007. Just prior to that, Jackson had been fighting in the short-lived WFA, and UFC ownership group Zuffa LLC acquired the company. Later, UFC president Dana White would say that the only reason they bought the promotion was to acquire Jackson's contract.
Jackson went on to win the UFC light-heavyweight championship by beating Chuck Liddell at UFC 71 and defend it against Dan Henderson a few months later before dropping the belt to Forrest Griffin in July 2008.
The next fight would be the 12th in Jackson's UFC tenure, and he currently has a 7-4 record while fighting for the promotion, losing his last two.
No timetable was given for the matchup with Rua, which was reported by Ariel Helwani, but the bout should please Jackson, who has long wanted a rematch stemming from his April 2005 defeat at PRIDE Total Elimination 2005. That was the opening round match of the PRIDE middleweight Grand Prix that made Rua a star, and Rua won in style with a spectacular first-round TKO.
Jackson had a chance to take the rematch in 2011, but turned down the short-notice bout because he felt he didn't have enough time to get into shape and come in at optimal strength. Now, he'll have a chance to win in his last octagon appearance and avenge a bitter defeat at the same time.

He would have won this fight 2007-2008ish brutally but now I expect Shogun to fuck his ass up. I bet Wand and Page fight in One FC in two years time.

He has his best shot right now at winning this fight to be honest. Shogun's legs are pretty much gone. No movement, no bounce in his step and he's pretty much a slugging brawler at this point himself so Rampage could in theory take this fight if he's smart.

Before Rampage came in overweight in Japan I would've been upset about this news, however, if he doesn't care anymore then neither do I. I hope he at least has the decency to come into the Shogun fight in shape and ready to go out with a bang.
If he wins maybe he and Dana will reconsider. Winning cures a lot of ailments.

Can't wait to see it, hope both fighters stay healthy so this actually happens. I also hope Shogun wins and I'm pretty sure he will but I hope if Page is done he atleast goes out with a good fight.

Yeah I haven't been able to log on the NP from work until now. I plan on asserting my dominance here once again.

Agreed, Shogun is just a brawler with no movement anymore. Still favor him given we know he can take it, and Rampage's handspeed is so atrocious that Mauricio should still have a huge advantage there. I hope he shows some more bounce though and just brutalizes Page's leg though

Shogun's speed will be the difference. He will land far more shots and probably the cleaner shots. Don't see either guy getting hurt by the other.

I'm with Bobbitt, Shogun is going to put it on Page's legs. I don't know why people are down on Shogun. I think he still has a lot left in the tank. If it's his cardio that's the problem, that's nothing new.

He doesn't have the bounce anymore. Hasn't thrown like any leg kicks since that 2nd Machida fight. 5 rounds against a flat footed Hendo and he didn't throw a damn leg kick the whole fight. That's not Shogun. The guy is still awesome because he's a true fighter though

I'm not "down" on Shogun, but anybody with eyes can see he isn't the same fighter he was anymore. His knees are fucked at this point. I'm about as high on Hendo as anyone around here but Shogun probably would have beaten the crap out of him if he still had his legs under him anymore. At this point Shogun is a muay thai fighter who can't kick anymore. He still has speed in his hands and in his forward movement, though. He can close the distance with that stepping right hook. I've lost pretty much all faith in Rampage but on paper this is a fight he can win if he gets up for it, which I doubt he will.

Shogun can also still take a hell of a punch. Hendo hit him with some serious power early in that fight.

I agree Shogun is def showing some wear but I think he can still kick and his lack of kicking in the Hendo fight COULD'VE been more because he was afraid of being taken down than not being able to do it any more because of aging and injuries.

I just can't see it like that. Shogun doesn't seem to me like the type of fighter that would hold back on kicks because of fear of wrestling to begin with, and certainly not from Hendo who has been a standup fighter for years now

Won't be shocked if Page comes in super shape and ready to kill for this one...just because it would stick it to UFC and the haters if he did with only one fight left. I still like Shogun as the better talent so i'll lean towards him.
If Rampage wins though, i bet he forgets about this shit and stays in the UFC. Emo Page only pops up when people are extremely critical of him like when he turned down big fights to film A-Team or showing up overweight and extremely unmotivated against Bader.
