- i've seen them fight in their prime. They would all lose to edgar, and many other top lightweights right now. The talent in the sport, especially in this division which everyone agrees is one of if not the most stacked divisions, is far superior right now. Has nothing to do with when i discovered mma or became a fan. Yes Gomi and Uno were great fighters, but their records show that when they truly fought top guys they lost. Can't say the same about Edgar.
Wow. I don't even know where to begin here. We're not talking about who would beat who, we're talking about legacies. Just because Mike Tyson would beat Muhammed Ali today doesn't mean Mike has a better legacy. Unless you saw these guys fighting back in the day, or went back to watch the fights in order to appreciate the legacies they built you shouldn't even get into this conversation because looking at wikipedia fighter records for the last two years doesn't sum it all up, no matter how much you want it to. I guess if the end results are all that matter then you can say the records show that when Nick Diaz truly fought top guys he lost too.

| Real Talk, Edgar is 2-2 since 2009, fighting only two men.
You wanna give me shit about "official scorecard" and "Official results" go ahead, judges don't do my deciding for me, for some they do, not I. Recognizing official records is not the same as know what is up.

I was supposed to treat "Caol Uno and Jens Pulver and Takanori are bums" as a legitimate and valid point? Come on, son. Come back and tell Me Fedor never beat anybody and see if I don't come back with the same kind of response. When you talk juvenile nonsense you should expect it come back to you with a quickness. Do us both a favor and take some midol, then watch some fight vids before you come back talking out of your ass/Wiki pages.

You didn't offend me. I donno though, why the vitriol on the Edgar issue? I think he has already secured a great legacy but I can see where there would be various opinions. Lets refocus this debate. While I am flattered that there are multiple concurrent threads across the entire forum about me etc, this one has another use. Ludo. Oggy. Im going to mediate. If you had to rank the top ten LWs of all time, who would they be. If you dont think LW has a rich enough history for ten true all time greats, unlike 205 and hw which have longer lineages, top five. Go.

| A good couple of lists to be honest. The only reason I didn't include Kawajiri was for Stevenson who was a mainstay in the top five for a good while. The only thing I take issue with on those lists is Sherk. Sherk really only ever fought about 7 times at 155, and went 5-2 in those 7. | |

It's not a disrespect thing. It's just that the guys above him pioneered the division and also carried shit for a lot of years.

Pulver and Uno? lol Frankie is already ahead of them. That's the dumbest thing you have ever said.
Frankie needs to beat a few more big names for me to say he is the goat of 155. Gil and _____ would get him there, bendo won't. gotta completely disagree, Pulver beat Penn when Penn was considered perhaps the best in MMA not just the division, Penn is still ranked higher than Edgar all time, we don't rank Ali behind Holmes just because Holmes won the fight. Uno faced more elite level competition on a broader base, just saying. Edgar is in position to be above Uno but he is still behind Penn, Pulver and Gomi

| That is true about Sherk. He and Aoki are as much of WWs as they are LWs. Things get interchangeable one minute to the next thinking about atg lists.
But the more I think about Melendez and his career the more it looks batter than Edgar's thus far.

good list but Yves Edwards is ranked to low, this is the problem, just like the Fedor Duffee thread, UFC didn't have a champ, still Yves or Gomi were the best in the world, Still ppl like Sherk get name dropped more than Yves will and its a shame Yves over Din THomas for sure

But the more I think about Melendez and his career the more it looks batter than Edgar's thus far. Melendez' career has definitely been impressive the whole way through. The fact that he thrashed the shit out of Aoki and Kawajiri in the last two years along with the other big names on his record definitely gives him a running. The only thing that really keeps Me from putting him ahead of Edgar is Edgar's limited number of fights to date. If Edgar fights another six times he probably amasses a better overall record provided he keeps winning. It's hard to say which one will end up better in the end though.

Yves over Din THomas for sure Thats debatable really. Yves fought the bigger guys early on but Thomas was the more complete fighter from the start. He was also a top fighter for a longer period of time. Yves sort of got lost in the mix around 2005 and didn't recover until late 2007.

It's why I got him higher. He has 22 fights and at least half if not more of his wins are against name guys I consider top level then and some still now. It rivals and trumps Edgars right now for me. Edgar is 13-3 in my official record book.

It rivals and trumps Edgars right now for me. I agree. What hurts Melendez right now is he has nobody to fight and Edgar has like 3 fights lined up including this one in two days. After this he has probably Pettis, and then the winner of Nate Diaz/Jim Miller. With the way Diaz and Miller have been performing if he gets through this current gauntlet it would hard not to rank him ahead of Uno and Pulver. If they'd just pull Melendez into the UFC he'd have a chance to build his resume more. Instead he's stuck in Strikeforce where he will probably be fighting lame competition from here on out unless someone really opens eyes in the next six months over there(unlikely).

| Alvarez gets HM love after the 8th spot, but compared to the other great legacies, his number of marque wins is a few behind still for me. Top 10-20 ATG lw though considering one of his 3 losses was to essentially a 185 in disguise GOAT. | |
