But submissions aren't instant. KO's are. One punch, one kick, and the lights can go off. No submission is applied like that. Submissions are a result of bad positioning and bad defense. There is no physiological reason for being submitted, there is for being knocked out.

Of coarse chins play a role. And Reem's is not one that I would call stout.

I think Bas and a lot of other Dutchmen who were close with Reem are pretty hurt. He has points, not on chin, but on striking defense. Reem's covering sometimes makes him look even more vulnerable.

I've been saying for a while Overeems striking defense isn't the greatest, but the guy seems to know how to avoid being hit with the big shot for the most part. I mean the guy missed on a flying knee against Vitor Belfort and then weaved around the three punch combo Vitor threw at him once he landed again.

That said this fight could go either way really. Jr is the exact kind of fighter Overeem has had trouble with in the past. He's an accurate power puncher who knows how to find the button. On the flip side we've never seen JDS up against this kind of fighter before. We've never seen JDS have to deal with someone who will actually throw back at him with pretty much the same kind of power striking. There's nothing to suggest either of these guys can't knock the other out, I do think JDS is the faster fighter, especially in closing distance.

Bas maybe bitter, but what he's saying isn't that ridiculous either. I wouldn't necessarily say Reem has a glass jaw, but he does leave himself open in ever fight, and that a recipe for disaster against JDS. I could look at a larger sample size, but just checking Reem's last two fights, Werdum, yes Werdum was winning exchanges by pressuring Reem, and Brock in a fight he looked like he took as a favor managed somehow to draw blood against Reem. It isn't saying much there, but we're all big fans, we know Reem's striking defense isn't the best, might be a result of K-1, but who knows.. I know one thing though, JDS is a beast of the feet and he def has a good chin, if it comes down to it chin battles happen often and we know who wins...
