It would crazy if Fitch ended up facing Diaz instead of Ellenberger. Personally would favor him to win.
Fitch vs Diaz would be an interesting fight, especially for 5 rounds. No doubt that Nick would do damage but could Fitch win enough rounds to take it? Tough matchup for Nick, it's nearly impossible to stop Fitch.
Only possible good that could come from a Diaz vs Fitch interim title fight would be, IF Diaz could stop the Fitch take downs, it would give him much more credibility vs GSP.
But if it is typical Fitch and he ground out a 5 rnd W for the title? Against one of the most exciting fighters in the sport? Ugh, that would be terrible.
But I'll not worry about that right now, Diaz vs Condit should be sweet.

At least both are getting what they were suppossed to be getting. A title shot. I will root for the pro, but expect the little whiner to win.

Well the other positive thing that could happen is Jon Fitch finally gets his fucking rematch. So even though I'm the biggest Diaz nut hugger EVA! I would settle for the consolation prize of Jon Dangerfield finally getting some fucking respect!

Lookin forward to it, when is it again, February, this crazy amount of injuries that big names in the UFC are getting is piling up, and none of them are stuff that happened in an actualy fight, all in training, why do an interimn belt for the WW, when they did not do one for the LHW when Shogun was on the sidelines for 10 months.

This news actually came across the bottom line of ESPN yesterday, it was already up by the time I got home. It said he would be out for 6-9 months and that Condit will be fighting Diaz for Interim title instead. Also this news is up on Yahoo right now. http://sports.yahoo.com/mma/news?slug=dm-meltzer_gsp_condit120711
St-Pierre laid out the plans on Monday's new edition of "Inside MMA" on HDNet.
And upon his return, St-Pierre said he'd rather fight Nick Diaz than his upcoming UFC 143 opponent, Carlos Condit.
"Hard training will be in July, and fighting again – the timing to get back – I would say beginning of November," he said. "Late October or the beginning of November, that'd be great."
St-Pierre, of course, was supposed to fight Diaz at UFC 137 in October, but a knee injury forced the champ off the card. Diaz instead fought and easily defeated B.J. Penn to earn a UFC 143 title fight with St-Pierre. But when the champ re-injured his knee and was forced to undergo surgery this past month, the February UFC 143 slot went to Condit, who now fights Diaz for an interim belt.
Diaz, in fact, lost the UFC 137 slot even before St-Pierre was forced off the card. After no-showing a pair of pre-event press conferences – which drew the ire of consummate pro St-Pierre – Diaz was pulled from the title fight, and it was supposed to go to Condit instead. (Condit later sat out the event when St-Pierre scratched.)
Now, upon his returned, St-Pierre (22-2 MMA, 16-2 UFC) hopes Diaz is the one holding the interim title.
"Carlos Condit is a very nice guy ... and I like him a lot, but the reason I wish for Nick Diaz to win that fight is because I want to fight Nick Diaz," he said. "I hope the best man will win, and if the best man is Nick Diaz, I will appreciate it more because it will be a better buildup for the fight."
Diaz (26-7 MMA, 7-4 UFC) and Condit (27-5 MMA, 4-1 UFC) fight on Feb. 4 in Las Vegas, though depending on the timing, the winner could fight again before meeting St-Pierre later in the year.
