- Sonnen would almost definitely beat Henderson. He's a good enough wrestler to avoid a takedown with MUCH better cardio. As long as he avoids the big knockout, he wins that fight by taking the second and third rounds just like Rich Franklin did (I know 2 of the judges disagreed with me on that fight, but Franklin absolutely won).
Wrong wrong wrong. Hendo's clinch game would negate Sonnen's. They'd stand and trade and Hendo would win. TKO late or most likely a decision for Hendo. I think you're failing to realize how bad Hendo's cardio really is.
He went 5 rounds with Rampage, all 3 rounds with both Franklin and Palhares. Sonnen didn't look too fresh after 3 rounds with Marquart. He gassed horribly during all 3 fights you mentioned. Particularly the Franklin fight, which was the most recent of those fights. And Sonnen was good to go for longer if he had to. Does anyone see this argument differently now?

| Sorry, MJ, this isn't a new rankings. I was just trying to bring up the argument about Dan Henderson's horrific cardio that I brought up in a hypothetical fight against Sonnen. Saturday just gave me more evidence to that point. | |

| Subject: Strikeforce and UFC promotional HW rankings. Mon Apr 19, 2010 10:05 pm | |
| Rank the top ten fighters in the division in each promotion.
I'll start with Strikeforce.
1. Fedor - The best ever 2. Overeem - arguably the most pedigreed striker at HW 3. Werdum - arguably the most pedigreed grappler at HW 4. Rogers - arguably the most pedigreed tire tech at HW. 5. Arlovski - former champion with something to prove 6. Cormier - arguably the most pedigreed wrestler at HW 7. Lashley - another great athletic wrestling talent. 8. Antonio Silva - big nasty Brazilian, like a better Gonzaga. 9. Shane Del Rosario - A knockout striker with a sick ground game, another bright prospect. 10. Mike Kyle - an utterly explosive striker, but weak on the ground against the top sub guys such as Werdum. Think of him as you would a better Pat Berry. 11. Lavar Johnson - A lot like Rogers, big strong knockout puncher from AKA. 14 - 3 record. 32 years old, still a lot of time to make noise. Granite chin.
I didn't have enough room to make a top ten with all the guys I wanted to rank. There are yet others you could put on this list, Brandon Cash, Roger Gracie, but there are some common threads with Strikeforce's HW division. Outside of a few great names they lucked in on out of the UFC like Werdum and Arlovski, and some Pride veterans at the top like Overeem and Fedor, this division is mostly geared for a great future, with a lot of blue chip prospects. One could even argue that while the UFC's division is a year or so more developed and much more famous, that Strikeforce might have more depth in terms of prospects.
It says a lot when the lowest guy on my rankings has headlined recent fight cards for Strikeforce. This division is the best they have, and realistically could produce challengers for Fedor not that unlike what the UFC has to offer, at least in terms of skill. Of course the initials on the cage matter.
UFC rankings coming next.

| Maybe Bigfoot has achieved more, but his failed test hurts him for me and wrestlers like this tend to walk of the street and into the top five in all weight classes anymore. The jury is still out for me on Bigfoot. What do your rankings look like ninja?

| I still don't get the general hate for Antonio Silva. A pretty well rounded fighter with only a questionable tank. He a pretty accurate striker, a lot of power, great chin, BJJ black belt and still has a lot of career to go, he's a big guy. I don't know whats not to like out of this HW. He can pretty much hold his own in any phase of MMA.
I like him better than Zag atleast.

| your shitting me. Werdum was getting crushed in the stand up untill Bigfoot followed him to the ground and wore himself out. That's when he started eating knees. Werdum is not a bad striker, he's not "one dimensional" otherwised he would have been phased out a long time ago.

| Tire tech lmao. I used to think Bigfoot was an up and comer, but now I think he sucks since I have seen him fight a few more times. I hope the loser of him and A gets Del Rasario next. I think that duee has the brightest future right now. I aree with the rankings you have right now so no need to list mine. It is a toss up between 3-5. Those guys could beat eachother any day of the week. | |

Perhaps one dimensional was a bit strong. but only a bit. Excuse me. Please...highlight the part of my post where i said he was a high level striker. Damn capt... i implied he can hold his own...and he can. I consider one dimensional somebody who can't stand up at all...like Aoki for instance. That's not Werdum. He can utilize leg kicks pretty well.
