| I'm not really basing it off that fight although he did fine in the standup. He gave Okami a boxing lesson over the course of 3 rounds. Its just obvious the guy has good technique even if he doesn't have huge power | |

Yeah looking at his resume just now, he hasn't really had this kind of layoff before. Could especially be a factor at this level in the game.

| I think he had a year off before the Brain Baker fight. FYI he has lost to Jermey Horn three times and his resume besides his last four fights isnt impressive at all. | |

He fought 4 months before Baker and again 8 months after. Also you shouldn't be surprised that Gumby was able to sub Sonnen a couple times, that is his major weakness.

| i haven't seen too much of stann to be honest but karma owes sonnen a punch in the face.
sonnen has been out for a while and he may not be as strong or explosive if he's taking less testosterone.

sonnen has been out for a while and he may not be as strong or explosive if he's taking less testosterone. As far as I know testosterone level has never been an issue for Sonnen. It's just following procedure(paper work) that seems to be his issue.

Yes that means Randy and Hendo.

| Horn also has a TKO on Sonnen although it was a cut. http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Chael-Sonnen-4112Somebody show me were the great Chael Sonnen has made himself a top #4 MW? Two nice wins against Okami and Nate. No offense to Dan Miller but he is a decent MW in the UFC thats it. Chael is a one trick pony and although he is very good at it, if he didnt run his mouth (which is why I like him) he would only be known as a top 8 MW. | |

I hate sonnen, but even in defeat he raised his rank vs Spider. To where? Of that Im not totally sure, I agree he is not totally proven as a top 5 guy.

| To be fair ill say Anderson, Munoz, Maia, Stann, Vitor, and Rockhold beat Chael. I know ill get blasted for this but I think it's true. Rockhold looked amazing in his last fight AKA has some great fighters and he would be prepared to stop Chael's takedowns. | |

Well at the time of the fights both Okami and Nate were top 5 MW. Then he went on to dominate 20+min vs Spider. Now I do not like Sonnen, I think he was overrated when people put him at #2.

Well Munoz couldn't get by Okami, I have no reason to think he would get by Chael. Rockhold looked great but I think you are getting carried away. He may be a one trick pony but it's pretty damn effective, especially with the MMA scoring system.

| Munoz who I never liked has improved leaps and bounds in the last year and a half. I hear ya on Rockhold but man he looked good in his last fight and anyone at AKA can stop td's. His kickboxing looked great as well. | |

Stopping Chael's takedowns is a different animal that Luke has not seen before. Especially in a 3 round fight, my money is on Chael via more points.

| Fair enough. He does train with King Mo, Fitch, Kos etc but agreed it would be a big step up in an actual fight. | |

Training with those guys is great, Luke does have some wrestling in his background, but you can't understate how far being a lifetime wrestler goes.

You could be right, but the guys he has been facing are levels above him in that department. Nate, Spider and Stann are all far superior to Chael in striking.

I will eat crow no problem if Chael wins but I would be high up there as one of the people who thinks his standup is simple and robotic.....man i like that word in this thread.

| People forget that he wobbled Silva twice in their fight and completely out boxed Filho. When people are afraid of the takedown, they dont throw as many punches and thats why Sonnen has looked good on his feet. | |
