He's riding a 2 fight losing streak and it could easily be 0-3 with a very close decision going in Shields's favor vs Kampmann.
I know Shields has an impressive resume with wins over Hendo, Condit and Okami, but 2/3 was over 5 years ago on a single night.
What do you think? Where does Shields fall?

Could be 0-3, but he still got the nod against Kamp....., then giving GSP a tougher fight then anyone has in sometime (best WW ever BTW) and getting caught with a knee and finished early by a big-time up and coming WW in a fight he took after he found out his Dad just passed earns him a drop from the ranks? I mean I've always thought he'd get exposed a bit in the UFC, but big overreact here, dude is still top 10.

Time to move up to 185 where he belongs.

Yeah, he's a MW. Greatest successes were there.

Yeah I said that yesterday in the chat. He belongs at 185. The weight cut is too much for him.

P4P I can understand, but dropping Shields from WW is a bit hasty.

Good point.
What is his best win at WW?

Paul Daley.
He did win an 8 man tourney when he beat Condit and Okami (Okami beat Anderson by dq) but that was at 175 and not 170.

I think there are a lot of guys at 170 in the UFC that beat Shields. Wrestler stacked division and almost all of them have much, much better standup than him. Go back to MW

Shields looked like a newb in that fight. Everything he did got countered the right way and Ellenberger made it all look easy down to the last punch to the ear. I hope Elllenberger gets the loser of Diaz vs BJ.

No not yet, what he should've done is stayed home and mourned his dad, I applaud his character and him saying his dad would've wanted him to fight, but clearly his mind was elsewhere, take nothing from Ellenberger he took the fight right to him, dude has some skills

Now Shields belongs at 185?
Don't think i heard that until he lost two straight at WW. He is a 170 fighter. MW is an option for Shields, but it's not where he belongs. Everybody seemed to agree that he was a pure WW when it came time to discredit Dan Henderson for losing to him.
Whenever a guy loses consecutive fights, or even one these days it means they have to switch weight classes. I know it makes sense for Shields because he's a proven MW but he can easly string together another streak at WW, and physically, he is more of a WW than a MW.

His mind was elsewhere because he had a knee driven into his skull

Did anyone notice him asking what happened after he was being helped up then bitched about the stoppage. IF you have to ask how you got KTFO then the stoppage wasn't bad. Go grab another ref's leg.

I don't like all this talk of him having to move up. We just heard time and again how Dan Henderson got beat by a welterweight, yet all of a sudden that isn't the place for this guy? Nonsense. Dude is the first person to give the best welterweight on the planet a fight(it doesn't matter how he did it, he did it) and lost his father not two weeks ago but fought anyway. Also, his best win at welterweight is Sakurai. But if you want his best win in the last 5 years at welterweight, it's Kampmann because when he fought Daley, Daley wasn't ranked in the top ten, while Kampmann was when they fought.

I am gonna need a little more time to think on that. Shields is coming off the distraction of his Father's death, and he did give GSP a fight, and did beat Hendo and Kampmann, though I disagree with the judges decision on the Kampmann fight, it is still his victory.

Does anyone know if the Diaz bros were somehow banded from being in Jakes corner? I thought it was strange that neither of them were there for Jake as faught for the first time without his father, they could have a perfectly good reason. But if I was Jake I would've def wanted my whole team there with me for such a time.

Well they both have fights coming up, they probably didn't want to miss out on training. Nate is fighting this weekend.

Well like I said they could have a good reason. I just thought it was odd to not see either Diaz bro in his corner. I've seen them in their teamates corner before when they've had fights coming up. IDK just a thought
