This story isn't true right? The Fighter was.

I don't think it's a true story, just a work of fiction.

Meh, looks cheesey, but i'll see it.
Angle would have been an MMA champ, if not for the neck issues/full blown drug and alcohol addiction

Worth watching, the fighting scenes are ok
but Christian Bale is great in it as Ward's bro Dicky Eklund. Dude steals the movie
His performance alone is worth checking account

I wrote a script that is almost identical to this. Mine was about a high school wrestling coach out of money and looking for a second shot of glory after a knee injury robbed him of the olympics. He enters a local tournament and tears it up until losing in the final to a prospect but injuring the prospect in the process. He is given the opportunity to fight in the prospect's place in a pride type tournament. Before he goes the prospect and his team train him in mma. He ends up going to the final of the tournament and loses a controversial split decision against a fedor type character, but gains Japanese acclaim in the process. Also juggles a struggling marriage and debt crisis in the process. The goal was to educate viewers and incorporate some of the great story lines in mma. Kind of sad to see this, but glad that there is the prospect of a good mma movie. Still doesn't appear to acknowledge wrestling.

I worked on a couple of boxing/MMA scripts in college
One was about a washed up club fighter who refuses to accept that he will never be a star, despite suffering repeat brutal KO losses. He keeps fighting, keeps losing, but never accepts reality.
The other was an MMA story about a kid from Brazil who dreams of being a star. I took some stuff from Anderson Silva (too poor to afford a gi, he learns BJJ by watching his neighbors), and he begins as a street fighter in underground vale tudo fights. He rises quickly in the Rio MMA scene, until his coach suggests he move on to America to become a complete fighter (after getting tapped in a title fight he was dominating). He comes to America knowing no English and only a few hundred bucks to his name. He ultimately overcomes the culture shock and becomes an American MMA champs.

I think this is more along the lines of MMA's The Fighter.
Warner Bros. has picked up JENS PULVER | DRIVEN for North American VOD (video on demand) distribution. This means beginning July 1, 2011 the film will be available across all major cable providers, and via online VOD platforms such as iTunes, Amazon VOD, NetFlix and many others.
This release coincides with our GET DRIVEN Goodwill Film Tour in which we are partnering directly with fans and organizations to screen the film across the globe.
