Beginning with Overeem's quarterfinal bout against Werdum, each Strikeforce title fight throughout the tournament will be a five-round contest. All other bouts are relegated to three rounds. Should Overeem win out, he'll have a strong case to be considered the No. 1 heavyweight in MMA. The same could be said for Emelianenko or Werdum.

thats what i was hoping for! this means even if they cant get the other fights set up for five rounds at least who ever faces the champ we'll get 5 rounders!!!

Yeah it's better when you consider the fact that Rogerio Nogueria and Vitor Belfot are the only fights Overeem has had that went the distance since 2000. Only 4 total in 12 years.

So really it's just they did give Werdum next shot, setup Fedor vs Silva in a number 1 contenders match, and are saying whoever wins the next 2 fights out of Barnett, Rogers, Serg and AA gets a Title shot down the line.....The Tourney really will endup falling to the backburner behind the Title.

Here's a thought. After the first round, declare all of the winners to be the bracket champion so both of the semi-finals fights could be 5 rounds.

Tourney or what I described above, an actually organized setup of Title fights and possible contenders...You could mark tourney in any UFC division and do this, infact it's always done, just the Barnett, AA, Serg, Rogers side isn't predetermined until the fighter wins both matches then they make the call.

Anyone else realize this?

SF title is not highly credible because Overeem ha been fighting most of his fights out of Org.

Werdum is the true lineal HW champ.

This tournament merges the true lineal MMA heavyweight championship line with the Strikeforce Heavyweight Title.

If you have any belief in a lineal Champ whatever works for ya, some do not..

A true tourney wouldn't have these pairings, but the matchups actually make sense, callin it a Prix doesn't really.

keep in mind that the way Pride tourneys were held was fucking CRAZY and while it was awesome for the fans the fighters had to suffer to get through them
