Karo Parisyan in talks with strikeforce

Former UFC welterweight contender Karo Parisyan has been in talks to fight for Strikeforce, MMA Fighting has learned.

Parisyan has not signed a contract with the San Jose-based organization yet, but if he does, he could debut as early as June 16 on the Strikeforce: Los Angeles show, which would make sense since the Armenian-born fight currently resides in the North Hollywood, Calif., area.

When contacted by MMA Fighting, Strikeforce officials refused to confirm or deny any talks with Parisyan.

Parisyan's final run in the UFC was a tumultuous one. He pulled out of a UFC 88 fight against Yoshiyuki Yoshida hours before the weigh-ins, citing a back injury. Parisyan had talked openly about battling depression and anxiety, and many suspected he had been suffering from those same symptoms leading up to the fight.

Following a victory over Dong Hyun Kim at UFC 94, Parisyan was suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for testing positive for banned painkillers.

After serving his suspension, Parisyan was then scheduled to fight Dustin Hazelett at UFC 106, but he pulled out the fight a day before the weigh-ins. UFC president Dana White then tweeted that Parisyan would never fight in the UFC again. Parisyan has still never publicly discussed why he pulled out of the Hazelett fight.

Since November 2007, "The Heat" is 0-1 with 1 no contest. His overall record is 18-5-0 (1 NC).

If he is healthy, the 27-year-old would be a nice addition to the organization's 170-pound division. Nick Diaz is their current welterweight champion.

I still hope the heat gets back to being the fighter he was. It would be great if he signed with SF so Nick can get his revenge but I would rather it be against the Karo of old and not just have Nick beat the piss out of the out of shape depressed Karo. That would just be sad.

He's probably a lost cause but I hope he can get it together. He's one of the few Judo guys that have had it work in MMA and I enjoy his fights. Would be another decent move by SF.

It will be interesting to see a rematch between him and Diaz. If Diaz runs through Karo, it would be fair to say Diaz is a legit guy at WW.

i think if Karo is clean, he's still a dangerous fighter and good sign for SF. They really have no ww roster so he is a must sign imo.

Karo sucks and always has. I can't stand him. I have sympathy for his drug problem because I've dealt with the same thing but as a fighter he blows.

Out of sympathy for his issues I hope he is clean. As a fan? I don't give a shit! He was in the best organization in the world and he fucked it up and now all of the sudden he is ready to fight? Let him go to KOTC or something until he has a proven track record.

well don't say act like sf has no one to challenge Nick when you picked him to lose his last time out.

And sf has a top notch wrestler in it's ranks at 170. Though they are taking their sweet time in developing him.
