I thought he was asleep, so I can see where the ref was coming from. he prob could have waited a couple seconds and the guy would have been out for real, but safety of the fighters and all.

It was a bullshit stoppage at that point but to be fair, it was only a few seconds away from being a legit one...i think Thomas was fucked there so i do give Askren credit for the W.

That ref was horrible but I definitely loved how they interviewed him and made him give an explanation. Horrible stoppage, though. Dude probably won't close his fucking eyes next time he's in a choke, bad idea.

Askren didn't look good until it hit the ground. He has some work to do on his standup if he's ever gonna be great.

lotta work but a good wrestling base with the Lions Den normally leads to good things (ie Lutter)

He didn't really train stand up for this fight. The smaller the weight class(until you get to the new, developing classes like BW and FW where the over all talent level is lower) the longer it takes for wrestlers to even their skills with the rest of the division. Don't expect Askren to be world class for a couple years.

If you watch it again, Jensen was at fault. He limps his leg and shuts his eyes, probably hoping that Askren would think he was out and start letting go so he could scramble right back up. Unfortunately for him, the ref thought he was out too when he looked like he was only playing possum, then got up all outraged. Thats what it seemed like to me at least.
