| http://www.sherdog.com/news/news/Dana-White-No-Fan-of-Friends-Refusing-Fights-27670We've had this discussion on here a few times and I agree with Dana on the subject matter... But I do disagree with his last comment as to why they don't want to fight eachother. Though final point being... Quit being babies and get in the freaking cage and fight!!! Teammates fighting one another: It's a topic that UFC president Dana White has addressed several times over the last week, each time opposing the practice with more conviction.
First, White chimed in at the UFC 120 post-fight presser in London after a victorious Carlos Condit said he'd have no problem fighting Jackson's Submission Fighting teammate Georges St. Pierre for the welterweight title.
“I'm tired of guys who don't want to fight each other,” said White. “Just because you train together means you can't fight each other?”
Next, White tackled the issue at the UFC 121 pre-fight conference on Wednesday.
“They're all pros. It's not personal. These guys are going in to compete and see who best is,” he said. “There should be no problem with guys in same weight class fighting each other.”
Today, the UFC president appeared on Jim Rome's radio show and expounded on his stance even further.
“The bottom line, and the way it's been in the UFC, is that it's a camp thing. You'll find a couple of camps that are saying, 'Oh, no. This guy is my friend. I'm not fighting him,'” said White. “What? This isn't personal. This isn't, 'Oh, I hate him. I'm going to fight him.' You train, and you work hard to be the best mixed martial artist you can be, and you're going to compete against other mixed martial artists to prove you're the best.”
White went on to tell Rome exactly what goes through his mind when he hears about a fighter refusing a fight on the grounds of friendship.
“I personally think that when one guy [refuses to fight a teammate], that means he's saying, 'I train with this guy, and this guy is probably going to kick my ass. I'm not confident enough to fight this guy.'”

I would make it known that if you don't want to be a champion you not gonna get a shot, eva! Or at least a few years.

| What I disagree with about the last part is this... I don't think it's one guy thinking his teammate's going to kick his ass. It's usually both guys saying they don't want to fight eachother. I get the argument about them knowing eachother's weaknesses, etc. because they train together... But you gotta leave the excuses and the personal feelings at the door and get it on. If you can't do that, you aren't a serious fighter and certainly aren't serious about being a champion... | |

| http://mmajunkie.com/news/28320/patience-proving-tough-for-ufc-champ-georges-st-pierre-hints-at-middleweight.mmaSt-Pierre is in Atlanta for this weekend's UFC 145 event, where friend and training partner Rory MacDonald meets Che Mills in the pay-per-view co-headliner. MacDonald, of course, is only 22 years old but already one of the sport's most promising prospects. In fact, some folks – including St-Pierre himself – believe MacDonald will be a future titleholder. So how would that work since he and St-Pierre are both in the welterweight division? "I'm not interested in fighting him," St-Pierre said. "There are a lot of welterweights. I don't think we need to do it now. In two years, who knows? I may go to middleweight. Who knows what's going to happen?"http://mmajunkie.com/news/28321/ufc-145s-rory-macdonald-would-move-to-middleweight-before-fighting-gsp.mma"You're starting [expletive]," MacDonald teased when a reporter asked about the what-if scenario. "Me and Georges are teammates and friends. So it's not going to get to that point of Rashad and Jones. I understand people want to see that drama, but I'm not bringing the drama. Me and Georges will work together and hopefully he retires or he moves up (in weight) or whatever. I'll wait my turn." MacDonald and St-Pierre agree they can avoid such a situation by moving up in weight. MacDonald said he'd move up perhaps to middleweight if offered a fight with the champ. "Yeah, probably," he said. "If it became like a financial thing." | |
