| Fans of Floyd Mayweather claim that fighters are never the same after being beaten by Floyd. He not only beats them physically, but destroys their psyche as well. I don't know that I subscribe to that theory myself, but it brings to mind some fighters that were never the same after taking on certain guys. I'll start with one of my favorites simply because he's a friend and had one of the weirdest careers ever. Darryl Pinckney KO's undefeated Louie Leija in Leija's back yard of San Antonio, TX. Leija was an undefeated (14-0) up and coming featherweight. The cousin of "Jessie" James Leija, he was knocking out a host of opponents to start his career. Pinckney, with a record of 19-19-2 was thought to be a next step opponent for Leija, even though he had scored a huge upset KO of Junior "Poison" Jones. Leija was a favorite considering he was fighting in his home town, but it was not to be as Pinckney crushed Leija in the first round. It was a vicious knockout with Leija sprawled backwards over his own legs. Prior to the fight, Leija was 14-0. After his first loss, Leija went 7-14-1, losing 10 of his last 11 fights. Did this KO loss ruin Louie Leija? It would seem that way to me. What other fighters have had their careers derailed after certain losses? | |

| Hamsho beating Czyz.Duva made a big mistake in thinking Hamsho was a stepping stone to a shot at Hagler.
Benitez was all lined up for a shot at Hagler had he got past Hamsho. He was beaten soundly by Mustapha.

| Nice thought.
Marvin Hagler sure changed John Mugabi's career.
Julio Cesar Chavez changed Meldrick's.
Tito changed both Vargas and David Reid's. In Reid's case it may just have been that Tito demonstrated that lazy eye was a career ender.
Edwin Rosario, even losing, changed Hector Camacho's.
Antonio Margarito changed Cotto's.
Arguello did this a bunch. Escalera, Ganigan, Royal Kobayashi were never the same.

| How about Fred Apostoli breaking Freddie Steele's breastbone with a punch!
Freddie Steele was like 120-2 and had never been KO'd before that fight. Apostoli stopped him and Steele went only like 3-3 with all losses by KO and then quit because the injury prevented him from being able to hold his hands up high enough to defend himself. I think he was only 25 when he quit.

| All my answers are listed. The only one I can think of at this point is Joe Louis and Max Schmeling. Also, in a losing effort, Joe Frazier changed the career of Muhammad Ali. What do ya know, there were still some more answers left. | |

Good one, though you might have gone the other way with that one. Chico did NOTHING after those fights.
