| More a tough guy than anything. Comparable to a Katsidis. | |

| Gotta love how he baited Hector Camacho into hitting him during the touching of gloves at the beginning of the 12th round. That point deduction lost Camacho the fight. | |

Yup. Of course being smarter than Hector Camacho is a little like hitting harder than Ivan Calderon.

| Will be remembered for his comments prior to the Chavez fight and the beating he took for saying it. | |

| To his credit, he sold that fight like a motherfucker. Obviously Chavez in Mexico was gonna sell regardless, but he had those people ON FIRE. Over 100,000 pissed off Mexicans screaming for his head. | |

Had Haugen somehow would have won,he would have been lucky to have made it out of there alive.

Agreed.Haugen had a pair of brass balls to take on Chavez in his own backyard.I don't believe he was joking when he made the "cab driver" comment.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a fighter play to the crowd the way Chavez did that day. Hurt Haugen, crowd roars, Chavez backs off and lets him recover, Repeat. It was a complete cat and mouse job.

| I always thought of Haugen as an overachiever, he went a long way with what he had, but he never quite made it to the next level. Before he started getting his ass kicked by better competition, he was fun to watch, he made some decent paydays as a Pro, I hope he's still got some of the money he earned. | |

| Haugen (The Mutt) was a tough SOB in his element. He was the first to defeat Camacho, went to Pazienza's back yard in his first defense losing a close fight, then whipped Paz in the rematch. He also had the nutsack to take on anybody. Whitaker, Chavez, Camacho, Pazienza, Curet, plus he KO'd Mancini. Not a bad resume' for a nobody from Nowhereville, Alaska. | |

In all fairness, it was rumored that those were the words of "Don King" in his attempt to promote the fight. He misquoted Greg. To be fair, Greg was a glorified club fighter in his time and never in the class of the top fighters of his era.

Wasn't that when they were both way past their primes? I'm not sure, but I think it was "Senior Tour" stuff.

| haugen one time fought this guy miguel santana at home right after haugen beat pazienza for the title. santana beat him and became world champion then when santana was calling his family from the locker room celebrating the decision was changed and haugen somehow was declared the winner LMAO. santana went on to lose 13 of his next 16 fights. here's some info After losing a ten round decision to Terrence Alli in a rematch, Santana got a chance to challenge IBFInternational Boxing Federation The International Boxing Federation, or IBF, is one of four major organizations recognized by IBHOF which sanction world championship boxing bouts, alongside the WBA, WBC and WBO.- History :... world Lightweight champion Greg HaugenGreg Haugen Greg Lee Haugen is a retired American boxer. Haugen was champion at both the Lightweight and Light-welterweight classes.... for the world title on April 11, 1988.
The fight had some rare circumstances surrounding it, mostly because Santana had lost twice in a row coming into his challenge for a world title. For ten rounds in Spokane, WashingtonSpokane, Washington Spokane is a city located in the Northwestern United States in the state of Washington. It is the largest city and county seat of Spokane County, as well as the metropolitan center of the Inland Northwest region... , the two boxers fought a close bout, but the fight had to be stopped because of a headbutt in round eleven and, since it had already passed the fourth round, the judges' scorecards were collected to declare the winner. It was a highly controversial bout, because Santana was announced as the winner and new world champion by a technical decision, but, about twenty minutes later, one of the judges claimed he had miscalculated his scorecard and he had Haugen ahead, not Santana, so the fight's result was changed and Haugen declared the winner instead, by technical decision also. Angered at what happened in Washington state, Santana launched an investigation into the fight.

Wasn't that when they were both way past their primes? I'm not sure, but I think it was "Senior Tour" stuff. I can picture Greg Haugen saying the following I didn't have no prime. I didn't have nithin'! Leg's are goin', everything is goin'. Nobody's getting' no nothin'. Guy comes up, offers me a fight. Big deal. Wanna fight the fight? Yeah, I'll fight the big fight. I wouldn't wanna fight. Know what's gonna happen to me? I'm gonna get that! I'm gonna get that! And you wanna be ringside to see it? Do ya? You wanna help me out? Huh? Do you wana see me get my face kicked in? Leg's ain't workin', nothing's workin', but they go, "Go on, fight the champ." Yeah, I'll fight him. Get my face kicked in. And you come around here. You wanna move in here with me? Come on in! It's a nice house! Real nice. Come on in and move. It stinks! This whole place stinks. You wanna help me out? Well, help me out! Come on, help me out. I'm standin' here!
