| According to sources who are close to the negotiations, the proposed junior welterweight unification between Timothy Bradley and Devon Alexander, which is scheduled for the tentative date of January 29 on HBO, is in serious jeopardy of falling apart. BoxingScene.com spoke to multiple parties with knowledge of the ongoing situation. There appears to be an internal dispute taking place between Bradley and his promoter Gary Shaw. Bradley's promotional contract with Shaw is reportedly set to expire in May 2011. In order to finalize the deal for the Alexander fight, Shaw wants Bradley to sign a contract extension. However, Bradley is refusing to sign the contract extension because he wants to explore his options and review potential offers from other promoters. There are no outstanding issues between Shaw and Bradley. The entire situation comes down to normal business practices. Like any athlete with a contract set to expire, Bradley wants to see which party, including Shaw, is going to provide him with best possible offer. In the case of Shaw, he wants to protect himself by securing one of his star fighters, and preventing a competitor from snatching him away. Nobody can blame Shaw for taking this position. Shaw, along with Thompson Boxing, built Bradley up, but at the same time Bradley does have the right to explore his options in order to maximize his earning potential. The situation is similar, and some people may call it identical, to Bradley's recent network jump from Showtime to HBO, because the earning potential and fight possibilities were better on the other side of the fence. There have been industry rumblings that Bradley has been in contact with Golden Boy Promotions about a potential future working relationship. Sources close to Golden Boy, and Bradley's team, have denied the rumblings. BoxingScene was informed that Shaw sent a letter to Golden Boy advising them that Bradley was still under contract and to cease any possible communications between the two parties. http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&id=30929 |

| I despise Gary Shaw with a passion, between his XXXXL tracksuits and Fred Flinstone face he makes my skin crawl. |

| If Shaw prevents this from happening because Bradley wants to explore his options he will and should be blacmlisted from the sport. This what can't happen. A fighter should be able to maximize his earning potential and look for the best deal out there. If I was a fighter Id have a different promoter every fight. Id go with the best deal possible everytime. Shaw has the guy till may. Roll out the red carpet and make the most money out of Bradley while you can. If you do well he'll probably sign with you if not at least other fighters will see what you can fo and possibly want to work with you. This is simple business practice on Bradleys part and shaw is acting like a stood up prom date. | |

+1 Gary Shaw has a habit of nasty splits, remember the whole Nonito Donaire debacle. |

| bradley is c orrect in looking for options once his contract expires..its no different then stars in baseball football..shaw is correct in telling golden boy and others to make no contact with bradley untill the contract has expired..shaw is totaly wrong in holding this fight as a hostage to resign bradley and indeed should be blackballed if this happens..his only true correct and fair option is to set forth to bradley his absolute best offer in a sealed bid to be opened the day after there contract expires and insist all other promoters weather it be GB or arum duva dibella etc to do the same..this is were a strong one only rulling body called a commision should come into play.....do the right thing which is almost unheared of in boxing today.. | |

| I understand Shaw pushing to get his fighter re-signed, but if he blows this up, he cost himself money.
Blowing it up won't get Bradley to re-sign, and he won't get any money from a Bradley/Alexander clash.

| Bradley can sue Shaw for this.
Most promotional agreements have language in the contract that state the promoter must make a good faith effort to arrange the most lucrative fights possible. It's sort of a fiduciary responsibility.
Anyway, I have had a feeling right from the start that if it wasn't one thing, it would be another in killing this fight. | |
